A Comprehensive Trial on PFAS Remediation: Hemp Phytoextraction and PFAS Degradation in Harvested Plants

open access: yesEnvironmental Science: Advances, 2023
In this community driven project, hemp plants were used to extract PFAS from contaminated soil and hydrothermal liquefaction was used to degrade PFAS in the harvested hemp.

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

Structure of the Plasmodium falciparum PfA-M17_BES (3KR4)

open access: yes, 2016
Current therapeutics and prophylactics for malaria are under severe challenge as a result of the rapid emergence of drug-resistant parasites. The human malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum expresses two neutral aminopeptidases, PfA-M1 and PfA-M17 ...

Associations of Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) and PFAS Mixtures with Adipokines in Midlife Women

open access: yesISEE Conference Abstracts, 2021
Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) exposure have been associated with obesity and related comorbidities, possibly through disrupting signaling pathways of adipokines. Both leptin and adiponectin can modulate metabolic processes.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

PFA and ω∗1

open access: yes, 1988
Before the question of whether ω∗ and ω∗1 can be homeomorphic is resolved it may be necessary to find out more about the space ω∗1. The space ω∗ has, of course, been extensively studied.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

X-ray crystal structures of an orally available aminopeptidase inhibitor, Tosedostat, bound to anti-malarial drug targets PfA-M1 and PfA-M17

open access: yes, 2015
New anti-malarial treatments are desperately required to face the spread of drug resistant parasites. Inhibition of metalloaminopeptidases, PfA-M1 and PfA-M17, is a validated therapeutic strategy for treatment of Plasmodium falciparum malaria.

Analysis of 6G and B5G waveforms using hybrid MF-ED and ECG-ED spectrum sensing techniques

open access: yesAutomatika
The rapid evolution of wireless communication has necessitated advanced waveform analysis for beyond-fifth-generation (B5G) and sixth-generation (6G) radio networks, focusing on efficient spectrum utilization.
