Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in wastewater streams: occurrence and current treatment

open access: yesAcademia Engineering, 2023
PFAS are a growing environmental concern due to their persistence and universality. PFAS enter the environment through multiple channels, one of which is wastewater.

Let's talk about PFAS: Inconsistent public awareness about PFAS and its sources in the United States.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2023
The presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in U.S. drinking water has recently garnered significant attention from the media, federal government, and public health professionals.

The minimal probabilistic and quantum finite automata recognizing uncountably many languages with fixed cutpoints

open access: yes, 2020
It is known that 2-state binary and 3-state unary probabilistic finite automata and 2-state unary quantum finite automata recognize uncountably many languages with cutpoints. These results have been obtained by associating each recognized language with a

Emerging and legacy PFAS and cytokine homeostasis in women of childbearing age

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are widespread chemicals. Legacy PFAS have been phased out of production in most developed countries and emerging PFAS (short-chain PFAS and polyfluorinated compounds) are used as legacy PFAS alternatives.

Early-Life Exposure to Per- and Poly-Fluorinated Alkyl Substances and Growth, Adiposity, and Puberty in Children: A Systematic Review

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2021
Per- or polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), a family of synthetic polyfluorinated compounds, are widely used in consumer products. Ubiquitous exposures to PFAS, in consideration of their persistence, bioaccumulation potential, and toxicities have led to ...

Adsorption analysis of PFOA on activated carbon and ion-exchange resin: A comparative study using four isotherm models [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Serbian Chemical Society
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), known as “forever chemicals”, are highly persistent environmental pollutants due to their strong carbon–fluorine bonds.

Fate and Transport of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) at Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF) Discharge Sites: A Review

open access: yesSoil Systems, 2023
Per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) are an environmentally persistent group of chemicals that can pose an imminent threat to human health through groundwater and surface water contamination.

Quantification of PFAS in soils treated with biosolids in ten northeastern US farms

open access: yesScientific Reports
This study, one of the few conducted to date on working farms in the US, examined per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination in 10 farms treated with biosolids using a paired control-treatment approach.

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.
