Phaeohyphomycosis: an unusual pituitary mass
British Journal of Neurosurgery, 2005A 64-year-old Caucasian woman presented with left eye pain and a transient left oculomotor nerve palsy. Subsequent imaging revealed a mass involving the sphenoid sinus and sella with suprasellar extension. A trans-sphenoidal hypophysectomy was performed. Histopathology showed a fungal infection consistent with phaeohyphomycosis.

Multiple phaeohyphomycotic brain abscesses caused by Cladosporium species occurred in a 55 year old woman. No immunological abnormality could be detected. The disease ran a protracted course for a total of 20 months before she died from sudden rupture of an abscess loculus into the ventricular system.

This is the first description of solitary phaeohyphomycosis affecting the mucosal surface. The lesion developed in the inferior lip of a 57-year-old woman. After surgical resection, histopathological examination evidenced characteristic brownish fungal structures within granulomatous-purulent inflammation.

Phaeohyphomycosis and Hyalohyphomycosis
2000Phaeohyphomycosis and hyalohyphomycosis are artificial categories created to avoid the proliferation of new disease names each time a filamentous septate fungus is implicated in human disease. Phaeohyphomycosis (phaeo, black in Greek; hypho, hyphae) comprises mycotic diseases caused by moulds that form septate hyphae with darkly pigmented cell walls in

Blastomycosis and Phaeohyphomycosis
2019The incidence of the mycoses affecting the central nervous system has increased in recent years. These mycoses occur in both immunocompetent and immunosuppressed individuals and are caused by primary fungi (yeasts and filamentous fungi). Among these fungi, Blastomyces spp. and phaeoid fungi stand out, which are characterized by reaching the CNS through

The authors describe a case of cerebral phaeohyphomycosis with lethal outcome within five weeks from surgical resection. The lesion consisted of a multilocular abscess in the left parietal lobe. The histopathologic findings showed a granulomatous reaction surrounding the abscess cavities.

[Pseudomycetomatous subcutaneous phaeohyphomycosis].
Bulletin de la Societe de pathologie exotique et de ses filiales, 1988The authors report the first Nigerian case of cutaneous and sub-cutaneous phaeohyphomycosis. It was characterized by its original macroscopy: the lesion was pseudo-tumoral and provided with fistulae. So it looked like a mycetoma. The diagnosis was finally made by histology: it showed the typically pigmented mycelium.
