Campylobacter jejuni Developed the Resistance to Bacteriophage CP39 by Phase Variable Expression of 06875 Encoding the CGPTase

open access: yesViruses, 2022
Bacteriophage (phage) is regarded as an antimicrobial alternative for Campylobacter in food production. However, the development of phage resistance to the host is a main concern for the phage application.

Isolation of Phages and Phage Typing of Bacillus cereus.

open access: yesJapanese Journal of Food Microbiology, 1998

The Type A Phages of Salmonella typhimurium: Observations on Temperate Phage and Lysogenesis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of General Microbiology, 1961
SUMMARY: When a standard suspension of Salmonella typhimurium Q1, an indicator strain sensitive to the type A phages recovered from lysogenic strains of this organism. was exposed to concentrations of these phages giving a phage:bacteria ratio of approximately 1:10 (thus ensuring that, with rare exceptions, bacteria became infected with single phage ...

Directed evolution of enzymes at the crossroads of tradition and innovation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An iterative cycle of data‐driven enzyme optimization comprising four stages: genetic diversification of a template enzyme, expression of protein variants, high‐throughput evaluation, and machine‐learning‐guided redesign of the next variant library.

Northern Normal: Laboratory Networks, Microbial Culture Collections, and Taxonomies of Power (1939–2000)

open access: yesEngaging Science, Technology, and Society
Bacteriophage-typing – using bacterial viruses to identify bacteria at the species and strain level – was the gold standard technology underlying the rapid expansion of international surveillance for major bacterial pathogens after 1945.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Co‐Electrospinning Extracellular Matrix with Polycaprolactone Enables a Modular Approach to Balance Bioactivity and Mechanics of a Multifunctional Bone Wrap

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The incorporation of nondigested ECM and synthetic polymers into a co‐electrospinning system enables the decoupling of bioactivity and mechanical properties within a single wrap. This technique is used to develop a multifunctional bone wrap that achieves augmented membrane durability, sustained infection control, and enhanced vascularity for use in ...

Transposon Insertion Sequencing Elucidates Novel Gene Involvement in Susceptibility and Resistance to Phages T4 and T7 in Escherichia coli O157

open access: yesmBio, 2018
Experiments using bacteriophage (phage) to infect bacterial strains have helped define some basic genetic concepts in microbiology, but our understanding of the complexity of bacterium-phage interactions is still limited.

Phage typing sets

open access: yesMathematical and Computer Modelling, 1992
Epidemiological testing requires fast, accurate and economical techniques. Phage typing is one such technique. Most of the raw data needed for phage testing must be gathered by lots of manual labor without computer assistance. The data that is collected has a random nature and is typically voluminous enough that it is difficult for humans to spot key ...

Packed for Ossification: High‐Density Bioprinting of hPDC Spheroids in HAMA Toward Endochondral Ossification

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Human periosteum‐derived cell spheroids bioprinted at high density within a hyaluronic acid matrix promote fusion and hypertrophic cartilage formation in vitro. Early encapsulation enhances spheroid interaction and matrix maturation, generating scalable cartilage templates intended for endochondral bone regeneration.
