Lipids in pharmaceutical and cosmetic preparations

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 2000
In this paper, a review of the applications of lipids in the pharmaceutical field has been reported. In a first stage, different lipids used as excipients in cosmetics and medicines have been described. Many vegetable oils are used in this sense: almond oil, apricot oil, avocado oil, borage oil, coffee oil, safflower oil, etc.; from de animal source ...

Spectrophotometric determination of cefaclor in pharmaceutical preparations

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 1999
A simple spectrophotometric method is proposed for the determination of cefaclor. The method involves alkaline hydrolysis of the drug in ammonia buffer solution at pH 10 to yield diketopiperazine-2,5-dione derivative and subsequent measurement at 340 nm. Beer's law is obeyed in the concentration range 1.8 - 55 mg/mL.

Effectiveness and safety of rivaroxaban or low-molecular-weight heparin in non-major orthopedic surgery: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research
Background Patients undergoing non-major orthopedic surgery often face an increased risk of venous thromboembolism due to the necessity of immobilization postoperatively. Current guidelines commonly recommend the use of low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH)

A fluorescence sensor for nitroreductase detection in hypoxic cells and zebrafish

open access: yesResults in Chemistry, 2021
Nitroreductase (NTR) is a type of cytoplasmic enzyme that depends on flavin mononucleotide or flavin adenine dinucleotide, and that is widely present in tumor cells where it increases during hypoxia. NTR can effectively reduce aromatic nitro compounds to

Cyclic nucleotide signaling as a drug target in retinitis pigmentosa

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Disruptions in cGMP and cAMP signaling can contribute to retinal dysfunction and photoreceptor loss in retinitis pigmentosa. This perspective examines the mechanisms and evaluates emerging evidence on targeting these pathways as a potential therapeutic strategy to slow or prevent retinal degeneration.

Rewriting the dendritic cell code in cancer—from subset identity to immunotherapeutic design

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Dendritic cells (DCs) play central roles in cancer immunity but are often subverted by the tumor microenvironment. This review explores the diversity of DC subsets, their functional plasticity, and emerging therapeutic strategies to reprogram DCs for enhanced antitumor responses, including vaccines, in vivo targeting, and DC‐based immunotherapies ...

Fabricating Oral Disintegrating Tablets Without Disintegrant Using Powder-Based 3D Printing

open access: yesPharmaceutics
Background: Powder-based 3D printing, an advanced additive manufacturing technique, can produce oral disintegrating tablets (ODTs) without disintegrants, creating larger-pored tablets via layer-by-layer powder stacking for better water absorption than ...

Targeting the MDM2‐MDM4 interaction interface reveals an otherwise therapeutically active wild‐type p53 in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.
