E2A selectively regulates TGF‐β–induced apoptosis in KRAS‐mutant non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ability to induce apoptosis by TGF‐β is frequently lost in advanced lung adenocarcinoma despite intact TGF‐β signaling. We identify E2A as a mutant KRAS–dependent mediator of resistance to TGF‐β–induced apoptosis. TGF‐β induces E2A via SMAD3 in mutant KRAS cells, and E2A silencing restores apoptosis and enhances radiation response in cell lines ...

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Dynamic diffusion load balancing [PDF]

open access: yes
We present the first analysis of a simple discrete diffusion scheme for dynamic load balancing. In each round (1-epsilon)n tasks are (arbitrarily) generated over a set of n processors, load is balanced amongst neighbours in some underlying graph, then a ...

A Novel Approach for Phase Balancing of Secondary Distribution Power System

open access: yesIndian Journal of Science and Technology, 2016
Objectives: The main objective of the power distribution system is to reduce the loss in order to improve the system efficiency, alleviate the cost and increase the consumer satisfaction. Methods/Analysis: Power loss mainly depends on type of the load and its pattern.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Possibilities of Simulation of a Technical Line which is subject to the Balancing Process [PDF]

open access: yes
Technical line balancing is a mean of economic efficiency increasing of some industrial activities. Essentially, to balance a technical line means to organize human operator's activity, to establish manufacturing flux, to project the line so to minimize ...

An Optimal Bidding Strategy of Power and Gas to Operate a Microgrid in Energy Market [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Artificial Intelligence and System Modelling
Microgrids could lower their costs in the day-ahead market through bidding in a smart distribution network. The bidding dilemma is difficult because there are many uncertainties.
