Phase-Contrast and Dark-Field Imaging
Very early, in 1896, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, the founding father of X-rays, attempted to measure diffraction and refraction by this new kind of radiation, in vain. Only 70 years later, these effects were measured by Ulrich Bonse and Michael Hart who

Dynamic model and stationary shapes of fluid vesicles
A phase-field model that takes into account the bending energy of fluid vesicles is presented. The Canham-Helfrich model is derived in the sharp-interface limit. A dynamic equation for the phase-field has been solved numerically to find stationary shapes

Phase field theory of crystal nucleation in hard sphere liquid
The phase field theory of crystal nucleation described in [L. Granasy, T. Borzsonyi, T. Pusztai, Phys. Rev. Lett. 88, 206105 (2002)] is applied for nucleation in hard--sphere liquids. The exact thermodynamics from molecular dynamics is used.

Physical phase field model for phagocytosis
We propose and study a simple, physical model for phagocytosis, i.e. the active, actin-mediated uptake of micron-sized particles by biological cells.

Integrated unified phase‐field modeling (UPFM)
For a long time, the phase‐field method has been considered a mesoscale phenomenological method that lacks physical accuracy and is unable to be closely linked to the mechanical or functional properties of materials.

Inhomogeneous chiral phase in the magnetic field
Inhomogeneous chiral phase is discussed in the presence of the magnetic field. A topological aspect is pointed out for the complex order parameter, in relation to the spectral asymmetry of the Dirac operator.

Entropy Production in Phase Field Theories [PDF]
Allen-Cahn (Ginzburg-Landau) dynamics for scalar fields with heat conduction is treated in rigid bodies using a non-equilibrium thermodynamic framework with weakly nonlocal internal variables. The entropy production and entropy flux is calculated with the classical method of irreversible thermodynamics by separating full divergences.

Domain-wall Skyrmion phase of QCD in magnetic field: gauge field dynamics
The ground state of QCD in sufficiently strong magnetic field at finite baryon density is an inhomogeneous state consisting of an array of solitons, called the chiral soliton lattice (CSL).
