Numerical simulation of single droplet dynamics in three-phase flows using ISPH [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this study, a new surface tension formulation for modeling incompressible, immiscible three-phase fluid flows in the context of incompressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics (ISPH) in two dimensions has been proposed.

Efficient Meshless Phase-Field Modeling of Crack Propagation by Using Adaptive Load Increments and Variable Node Densities

open access: yesMathematics
This study employs the fourth-order phase-field method (PFM) to investigate crack propagation. The PFM incurs significant computational costs due to its need for a highly dense node arrangement for accurate crack propagation.

Therapeutic Apheresis in Nigeria: A Multi‐Center Summary of Abstracts From the Inaugural Nigerian Society for Apheresis Scientific Meeting

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Therapeutic apheresis (TA) is an established treatment modality for hematologic, neurologic, and immunologic disorders, yet access remains severely limited in sub‐Saharan Africa. Donor apheresis, including platelet apheresis collection from healthy donors, represents an important complementary modality supporting blood product ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

The Effects of Inhomogeneous Elasticity and Dislocation on Thermodynamics and the Kinetics of the Spinodal Decomposition of a Fe-Cr System: A Phase-Field Study

open access: yesMetals, 2020
The effects of inhomogeneous elasticity and dislocation on the microstructure evolution of α′ precipitate in a Fe-Cr system was investigated using a Computer Coupling of Phase Diagrams and Thermochemistry (CALPHAD)-type free energy incorporated phase ...

Phase-field methods for spectral shape and topology optimization

open access: yesESAIM: Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations, 2023
We optimize a selection of eigenvalues of the Laplace operator with Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions by adjusting the shape of the domain on which the eigenvalue problem is considered. Here, a phase-field function is used to represent the shapes over which we minimize. The idea behind this method is to modify the Laplace operator by introducing

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Bayesian inversion for anisotropic hydraulic phase-field fracture

open access: yes, 2021
In this work, we employ a Bayesian inversion framework to fluid-filled phase-field fracture. We develop a robust and efficient numerical algorithm for hydraulic phase-field fracture toward transversely isotropic and orthotropy anisotropic fracture.
