Synergistic effects of Al and Mo on coarsening kinetics of Ni-based superalloys at 1200°C

open access: yesMaterials Research Letters
The interaction effects of γ-strengthening and γ'-former elements have long troubled the alloying design of superalloys, especially improving γ'-thermostability by Al addition against higher temperatures.

Refinement of amino‐acid conformation vs. difference density maps in time‐resolved serial femtosecond crystallography data analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dFoCC pipeline starts with observed DED and resting‐state coordinates, which are then used to generate a library of triggered states. Correlation analysis of the calculated DED features of each candidate vs observed DED permits quantitative evaluation of candidate structural quality.

Numerical simulation of drifting sand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Two-phase flows are involved in many industrial and natural flow phenomena varying from as specific as the transport of crude oil in pipelines to as general as the dispersion of pollutants in the atmosphere.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Visual Scale Factor for Speed Perception [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Speed perception is an important task depending mainly on optic flow that the driver must perform continuously to control his/her vehicle. Unfortunately it appears that in some driving simulators speed perception is under estimated, leading into speed ...

Pathways and pitfalls: a qualitative study of student experiences in biomedical science education

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biomedical science students from underrepresented backgrounds face barriers including financial strain, disrupted laboratory access and cultural exclusion. Peer networks provide vital support when institutional systems are difficult to navigate. To create inclusive learning environments and achieve academic success, educators should blend active, hands‐

A Cosserat crystal plasticity and phase field theory for grain boundary migration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
International audienceThe microstructure evolution due to thermomechanical treatment of metals can largely be described by viscoplastic deformation, nucleation and grain growth.

A new flow chip in combination with multiphoton microscopy as a protocol for longitudinal 3D imaging of tissue calcification under shear stress

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Miniaturized flow chip platform enabling continuous perfusion and longitudinal multiphoton 3D imaging of vascular smooth muscle cell constructs under physiological flow. Brightfield imaging guides region selection, while CellTracker Green and mRuby‐labeled fetuin‐A visualize cells and mineral deposition, respectively. Magnesium supplementation markedly

3D Phase Field Simulation

open access: yes, 2018
This video shows results of 3D Phase Field simulation of cyclic partial phase transformation using MICRESS software. Back ad Forth migration of austenite/ferrite interfaces during partial transformations are explicitly visible in this video.
