The New Phase due to Symmetry Protected Piecewise Berry Phases; Enhanced Pumping and Non-reciprocity in Trimer Lattices [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports 7, 45015 (2017), 2016
Finding new phase is a fundamental task in physics. Landau's theory explained the deep connection between symmetry breaking and phase transition commonly occurring in magnetic, superconducting and super uid systems. The discovery of the quantum Hall effect led to Z topological phases which could be different for same symmetry and are characterized by ...

First-order magnetic phase-transition of mobile electrons in monolayer MoS$_2$ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Evidence is presented for a first-order magnetic phase transition in a gated two-dimensional semiconductor, monolayer-MoS$_2$. The phase boundary separates a spin-polarised (ferromagnetic) phase at low electron density and a paramagnetic phase at high ...

Visualization Study on Thermo-Hydrodynamic Behaviors of a Flat Two-Phase Thermosyphon

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
The coupled effect of boiling and condensation inside a flat two-phase thermosyphon has a non-negligible influence on the two-phase fluid flow behavior and heat transfer process.

Inducing Chalcogenide Phase Change with Ultra-Narrow Carbon Nanotube Heaters [PDF]

open access: yesAppl. Phys. Lett. 95, 243103 (2009), 2009
Carbon nanotube (CNT) heaters with sub-5 nm diameter induce highly localized phase change in Ge2Sb2Te5 (GST) chalcogenide. A significant reduction in resistance of test structures is measured as the GST near the CNT heater crystallizes. Effective GST heating occurs at currents as low as 25 uA, significantly lower than in conventional phase change ...

Development of a simple assessment method regarding the overlap of spheroidal particles and its application to Monte Carlo simulations of magnetic particle suspensions

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2019
We have developed a simple assessment method for the overlap between spheroidal particles, which is indispensable for performing particle-based simulations of a colloidal suspension.

The Ultrafast Optical Response of the Amorphous and Crystalline States of the Phase Change Material Ge$_2$Sb$_2$Te$_5$ [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 94, 024301 (2016), 2016
We examine the ultrafast optical response of the crystalline and amorphous phases of the phase change material Ge$_2$Sb$_2$Te$_5$ below the phase transformation threshold. Simultaneous measurement of the transmissivity and reflectivity of thin film samples yields the time-dependent evolution of the dielectric function for both phases.

Modeling Heterogeneous Melting in Phase Change Memory Devices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We present thermodynamic crystallization and melting models and calculate phase change velocities in $Ge_2 Sb_2 Te_5$ based on kinetic and thermodynamic parameters. The calculated phase change velocities are strong functions of grain size, with smaller grains beginning to melt at lower temperatures.

Nonlinear behavior of geometric phases induced by photon pairs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this study, we observe the nonlinear behavior of the two-photon geometric phase for polarization states using time-correlated photons pairs. This phase manifests as a shift of two-photon interference fringes.

Time-Space Constrained Codes for Phase-Change Memories [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Phase-change memory (PCM) is a promising non-volatile solid-state memory technology. A PCM cell stores data by using its amorphous and crystalline states. The cell changes between these two states using high temperature.

Structural colors and enhanced resolution at the nanoscale: Local structuring of phase-change materials using focused ion beam [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
In the past few years, phase-change materials have become increasingly important in nano-photonics and optoelectronics. The advantages of sizeable optical contrast between phases and the additional degree of freedom from phase switching have been the driving force.
