Berry Phase in a Composite System [PDF]
The Berry phase in a composite system with only one subsystem being driven has been studied in this Letter. We choose two spin-$\frac 1 2 $ systems with spin-spin couplings as the composite system, one of the subsystems is driven by a time-dependent magnetic field. We show how the Berry phases depend on the coupling between the two subsystems, and what

Liquid-phase compositions from vapor-phase analyses [PDF]
In the safe handling and processing of uranium hexafluoride (UF{sub 6}), it is often desirable to calculate vapor composition and pressure from known liquid composition and temperature. Furthermore, the ability to use analyses of equilibrium vapor-phase samples to calculate liquid-phase compositions would be economically advantageous to the ...

Phase composition of Bi2O3 specimens doped with Ti, Zr and Hf [PDF]
Powder mixtures of α-Bi2O3 containing 2, 5 and 10 mole % of TiO2, ZrO2 or HfO2 were homogenized, heated at 820ºC for 24 h and quenched in air. X-ray powder diffraction technique was used to characterize the prepared samples.

Combining phase field crystal methods with a Cahn-Hilliard model for binary alloys [PDF]
During phase transitions certain properties of a material change, such as composition field and lattice-symmetry distortions. These changes are typically coupled, and affect the microstructures that form in materials.

Corrosive properties of coatings based on Ti1-xAlxN [PDF]
Corrosion properties of coatings based on Ti1-xAlxN precipitated by pulsed magnetron sputtering were studied. The effect of phase composition, aluminum content in Ti0,40Al0,60N and Ti0,62Al0,38N coatings on their electrochemical characteristics obtained ...

Quantified Uncertainty in Thermodynamic Modeling for Materials Design [PDF]
Phase fractions, compositions and energies of the stable phases as a function of macroscopic composition, temperature, and pressure (X-T-P) are the principle correlations needed for the design of new materials and improvement of existing materials.
