Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Renormalization Group Theory Applied to the CPA Equation of State: Impacts on Phase Equilibrium and Derivative Properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Calculation of thermodynamic properties such as vapor-liquid phase behavior with equations of state is largely and successfully employed in chemical engineering applications. However, in the proximities of the critical point, the different density ...

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Research progress and prospect of state equation in CO2 storage

open access: yesYouqicang pingjia yu kaifa, 2023
CO2 storage in abandoned oil and gas reservoirs can reduce the direct emissions of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which is one of the effective ways to mitigate the greenhouse effect.

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Fluid Phase Equilib. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Phase equilibria for the K2O-AI(2)O(3)-H2O System were investigated at 40 degrees C. In the concentrated alkali region of the phase diagram, only the equilibrium solid-phase K(2)O(.)Al(2)O(3)(.)3H(2)O was found besides (KOHH2O)-H-..
