Many-body formation and dissociation of a dipolar chain crystal

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2014
We propose an experimental scheme to effectively assemble chains of dipolar gases with a uniform length in a multi-layer system. The obtained dipolar chains can form a chain crystal with the system temperature easily controlled by the initial lattice ...

Directed self-assembly of soft 3D photonic crystals for holograms with omnidirectional circular-polarization selectivity

open access: yesCommunications Materials, 2021
Controlling the alignment of blue phase liquid crystals is challenging. Here, electric-field induced phase transitions are exploited to control the crystal orientation of blue phase I, and applied to the fabrication of holograms with omnidirectional ...

Phase‐field modelling of fracture in single crystal plasticity [PDF]

open access: yesGAMM-Mitteilungen, 2016
AbstractWe propose a phase‐field model for ductile fracture in a single crystal within the kinematically linear regime, by combining the theory of single crystal plasticity as formulated in Gurtin et al. [1] and the phase‐field formulation for ductile fracture proposed by Ambati et al. [2].

Slow-light and evanescent modes at interfaces in photonic crystal waveguides: optimal extraction from experimental near-field measurements [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We develop a systematic approach for simultaneous extraction of the dispersion relations and profiles of multiple modes in periodic waveguides though a special global optimization procedure applied to near-field electric field measurements in the ...

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

Effects of bimodal random crystal field on magnetic properties of mixed spin-1/2 and spin-1 on nanotube

open access: yes四川大学学报. 自然科学版, 2020
The effect of atomic doping on the magnetization of nanotube lattice points was studied by using the effective field theory. The results show that the doping degree, the probability of crystal field values, the nearest neighbor exchange interaction and ...

The modelling of nematic liquid crystal phase devices [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The implementation of nematic liquid crystal optical devices, which exploit the voltage dependent, optical path length modification of the electrical Freedrichsz transition, is presented.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Hyperosmotic stress‐induced redistribution of pre‐mRNA cleavage factor I subunits is associated with shifts in alternative polyadenylation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Hyperosmotic stress triggers the relocation of the CFIm complex from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. This shift creates a nuclear ‘stoichiometric bottleneck’, limiting CFIm availability for mRNA processing. Consequently, specific mRNAs like NUDT21 and DICER1 undergo targeted 3′UTR shortening, demonstrating how spatial protein dynamics drive rapid ...
