A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

Misorientation mediates dislocation phase boundary interactions in FCC to BCC transformation: A phase field crystal study

open access: yesMetals Advances
Through phase-field crystal simulations, we systematically investigate the effects of grain misorientation angle θ on phase transformation kinetics and defect evolution mechanisms.

Thermodynamics of bcc metals in phase-field-crystal models [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2009
We examine the influence of different forms of the free-energy functionals used in the phase-field-crystal (PFC) model, and compare them with the second-order density-functional theory (DFT) of freezing, by using bcc iron as an example case. We show that there are large differences between the PFC and the DFT and it is difficult to obtain reasonable ...

Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

Plasticity and Dislocation Dynamics in a Phase Field Crystal Model [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2010
The critical dynamics of dislocation avalanches in plastic flow is examined using a phase field crystal (PFC) model. In the model, dislocations are naturally created, without any \textit{ad hoc} creation rules, by applying a shearing force to the perfectly periodic ground state.

Castration‐resistant prostate cancer cells are addicted to the high activity of cyclin‐dependent kinase 2

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that emergence of castration‐resistant prostate (CRPC) is associated with significant upregulation of cyclins that positively regulate cyclin‐dependent kinase 2 (CDK2) and concomitant downregulation of CDK4 cyclins. This renders CRPC cells dependent on the high activity of CDK2, and CDK2 inhibitors synergistically sensitize CRPC cells to both ...

Classical nucleation theory in the phase-field crystal model [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2018
A full understanding of polycrystalline materials requires studying the process of nucleation, a thermally activated phase transition that typically occurs at atomistic scales. The numerical modeling of this process is problematic for traditional numerical techniques: commonly used phase-field methods' resolution does not extend to the atomic scales at

Refinement of amino‐acid conformation vs. difference density maps in time‐resolved serial femtosecond crystallography data analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dFoCC pipeline starts with observed DED and resting‐state coordinates, which are then used to generate a library of triggered states. Correlation analysis of the calculated DED features of each candidate vs observed DED permits quantitative evaluation of candidate structural quality.

Phase-field approach to evolution and interaction of twins in single crystal magnesium

open access: yes, 2022
Crack initiation and propagation as well as abrupt occurrence of twinning are challenging fracture problems where the transient phase-field approach is proven to be useful.

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...
