Modeling materials with phase field crystal models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The phase field crystal (PFC) model is a novel approach for modeling phenomena on atomistic length and diffusive time scales. In this dissertation, we present new advances in the methodology of the PFC model and describe applications to solidification ...

Temperature-Dependent Phase Transition in Orthorhombic [011]c Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3) O3-0.35PbTiO3 Single Crystal

open access: yesCrystals, 2014
Relaxor [011]c PMN-0.35PT single crystal phase transition characteristics are investigated through various methods including variable temperature dielectric properties, X-ray diffraction, bipolar ferroelectric hysteresis loops (P-E) and electric-field ...

Phase Field Modeling of Dendritic Growth on Spherical Surfaces

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2020
The spontaneous formation of a crystal phase is one of the most common and beautiful pattern formation mechanisms in nature. Different instabilities in the crystal interface may lead to the growth of ramified structures, known as dendritic crystal growth.

Revisiting phase diagrams of two-mode phase-field crystal models [PDF]

open access: yesComputational Materials Science, 2016
In this work, phase diagrams of a modified two-mode phase-field crystal (PFC) that show two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) crystallographic structures were determined by utilizing a free energy minimization method. In this study the modified two-mode PFC model (presented by E. Asadi and M. Asle Zaeem, Comput. Mater. Sci. 2015) was used, in

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.

Electric-Driven Polarization Meta-Optics for Tunable Edge-Enhanced Images

open access: yesMicromachines, 2022
In this study, we demonstrate an electrically driven, polarization-controlled metadevice to achieve tunable edge-enhanced images. The metadevice was elaborately designed by integrating single-layer metalens with a liquid-crystal plate to control the ...

Magnetic phase transitions in Gd64Sc36 studied using non-contact ultrasonics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The speed and attenuation of ultrasound propagation can be used to determine material properties and identify phase transitions. Standard ultrasonic contact techniques are not always convenient due to the necessity of using couplant; however, recently ...

USP29‐regulated noncanonical stabilization of the hypoxia‐inducible factor‐α in aggressive prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identify USP29 as the only DUB mirroring CA9 expression, a marker of hypoxia and HIF pathway activation associated with PCA aggressiveness. USP29 stabilizes HIF‐1α and HIF‐2α via a noncanonical mechanism that is independent of PHD/pVHL activity yet relies on proteasomal regulation, establishing USP29 as a previously unrecognized regulator of hypoxic

Eighth-order phase-field-crystal model for two-dimensional crystallization [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2010
We present a derivation of the recently proposed eighth order phase field crystal model [Jaatinen et al., Phys. Rev. E 80, 031602 (2009)] for the crystallization of a solid from an undercooled melt. The model is used to study the planar growth of a two dimensional hexagonal crystal, and the results are compared against similar results from dynamical ...
