Elasticity versus phase field driven motion in the phase field crystal model

open access: yesModelling and Simulation in Materials Science and Engineering, 2022
Abstract The inherent inconsistency in identifying the phase field in the phase field crystal theory with the material mass and, simultaneously, with material distortion is discussed. In its current implementation, elastic relaxation in the phase field crystal occurs on a diffusive time scale through a dissipative permeation mode. The

Effect of In-Plane Magnetic Field on Skyrmions in a Centrosymmetric Triangular-Lattice System with Symmetric Anisotropic Exchange Interaction

open access: yesMagnetism
We report our numerical results on the stability of the skyrmion crystal phase in an external magnetic field for both in-plane and out-of-plane directions in a centrosymmetric host. We analyze a spin model with the two-spin symmetric anisotropic exchange

Phase Field Simulation Research on the Microstructural Evolution of Monocrystalline and Polycrystalline Silicon

open access: yesCrystals, 2022
This work simulates the morphological evolution process of the solidification interface of silicon crystal. Based on the phase field model of single dendrite growth of pure material in a single-phase system, the control equation of the phase field is re ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Response Improvement of Liquid Crystal-Loaded NRD Waveguide Type Terahertz Variable Phase Shifter

open access: yesCrystals, 2020
Liquid crystals, which have high dielectric anisotropy even in the terahertz region and are easily controllable for dielectric permittivity by applying an electric field, have become increasingly attractive in recent years.

Crystal structure of the high-pressure phase of the oxonitridosilicate chloride Ce4[Si4O3 + xN7 − x]Cl1 − xOx, x≃0.2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The structural compression mechanism of Ce4[Si4O3 + xN7 − x]Cl1 − xOx, x≃ 0.2, was investigated by in situ single-crystal synchrotron X-ray diffraction at pressures of 3.0, 8.5 and 8.6 GPa using the diamond–anvil cell technique.

Conserved binding mode but diverse interfaces of MreC‐PBP2 interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of abMreC reveals a conserved two β‐barrel architecture and provides structural insights into its role within the bacterial elongasome. The abMreC–abPBP2 complex model identifies the molecular basis of MreC‐mediated PBP2 recognition, contributing to the regulation of peptidoglycan synthesis.
