Fourier domain preconditioned conjugate gradient algorithm for atmospheric tomography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
By 'atmospheric tomography' we mean the estimation of a layered atmospheric turbulence profile from measurements of the pupil-plane phase (or phase gradients) corresponding to several different guide star directions.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Improved Least Squares Phase Unwrapping Method Based on Chebyshev Filter

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Phase unwrapping of high phase noise and steep phase gradient has always been a challenging problem in interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR), in which case the least squares (LS) phase unwrapping method often suffers from significant ...

Influence of ultra-low interfacial tension system on nonlinear seepage law of low permeability core

open access: yes地质科技通报, 2021
The starting pressure gradient in low permeability reservoir leads to the nonlinear characteristics of fluid flow, which makes the development mode of low permeability reservoir different from that of medium and high permeability reservoir. In order to ...

Proof-of-principle demonstration of vertical gravity gradient measurement using a single proof mass double-loop atom interferometer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We demonstrate a proof-of-principle of direct Earth gravity gradient measurement with an atom interferometer-based gravity gradiomter using a single proof mass of cold 87 rubidium atoms.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Phase field modeling of partially saturated deformable porous media

open access: yes, 2016
A poromechanical model of partially saturated deformable porous media is proposed based on a phase field approach at modeling the behavior of the mixture of liquid water and wet air, which saturates the pore space, the phase field being the saturation ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Phase manipulation in reflective phase gradient photonic crystals

open access: yesOptics Express
Phase gradient photonic crystals (PGPCs) are proposed as promising candidates for phase manipulation and can enable arbitrary electromagnetic functions, such as deflection and focusing. In stark contrast to the proposed metasurfaces, the phase variation in PGPCs arises from simple edge-configuration rather than structure resonance.

Optical Sorting at the Single-Particle Level with Single-Nanometer Precision Using Coordinated Intensity and Phase Gradient Forces.

open access: yesACS Nano, 2020
Position-controlled sorting of colloidal nanoparticles (NPs) at the single-particle level is a challenge in nanoscience. Optofluidic potential wells can partially address this challenge yet with limited flexibility, reconfigurability and precision.
