The optimal phasing of phased deregulation
Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, 1982Abstract If producers or consumers behave myopically, sudden and complete deregulation of a market with long-standing price controls can lead to an inefficient allocation of resources. This paper uses a simple model in which producers have adjustment costs to analyze optimal policies for phased deregulation. Tax policies are also examined, and policy

A new realization method for synthesis of the optimal cyclic loss nonlinear filter using a third generation digital computer is proposed. This method consists of carrying a finite set of Fourier coefficients of the conditional density of signal given the observations, and updating these coefficients to determine the Fourier coefficients of the a ...

Abstract : The paper presents the results of an investigation on the optimal performance of the phase demodulator using Bucy's non-linear filtering theory. A cyclically optimal non-linear phase estimation technique was developed for modular phase tracking. (Author)

Physics Letters A, 1995
Abstract We analyze the detection of the phase of a single mode of the field with respect to a local oscillator, with the aim of optimizing the sensitivity as a function of the radiation intensity. We found that ideal scaling of sensitivity versus input energy is achieved for the open double homodyne detector in the limit of unit quantum efficiency.

Phase-gradient algorithm as an optimal estimator of the phase derivative
Optics Letters, 1989The phase-gradient algorithm represents a powerful new signal-processing technique with applications to aperture-synthesis imaging. These include, for example, synthetic-aperture-radar phase correction and stellar-image reconstruction. The algorithm combines redundant information present in the data to arrive at an estimate of the phase derivative.

On the Optimal Phase Control in MIMO Systems with Phase Quantization
2006 IEEE International Conference on Communications, 2006We consider the optimal phase control problem in wireless MIMO systems with quantized phases. We show that the problem is NP-hard when number of receive antennas grows linearly with the number of transmit antennas. For the case where the number of receive antennas is constant, we show that the problem is no longer NP-hard by providing a polynomial time

A phase based optimization algorithm for big optimization problems
2016 IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC), 2016An effective and scalable metaheuristic algorithm termed Phase Based Optimization (PBO) for solving big optimization problems is proposed. In the natural system, the individuals with three phases which are gas phase, liquid phase and solid phase have completely different motional characteristics.

Optimal Phase-to-Phase Control of Chemical Oscillations
Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2018We investigate the effectiveness of phase manipulation of chemical oscillations with open loop control based on phase model description. Minimum-power controls are applied to alter the phase of the oscillation from an arbitrary initial value to a desired value within one oscillatory cycle.

Phase optimization for phase contrast projection display
SPIE Proceedings, 2009A technique displaying arbitrary images based on phase contrast imaging with phase optimization method is proposed. Phase optimization is performed in a way similar to the iterative Fourier transform algorithm which considers the phase shift and the aperture size of the phase contrast filter.

Phase-based optimal image thresholding
Digital Signal Processing, 2003Abstract The automatic binarization of gray-level images or the automatic determination of an optimum threshold value that separates objects from their background is still a difficult and challenging problem in many image processing applications. The difficulty may arise due to a number of factors, including, poor contrast, high noise to signal ratio,
