A Two-Phase Optimization Algorithm For Mastermind
The Computer Journal, 2007This paper presents a systematic model, two-phase optimization algorithms (TPOA), for Mastermind. TPOA is not only able to efficiently obtain approximate results but also effectively discover results that are getting closer to the optima. This systematic approach could be regarded as a general improver for heuristics.

Optimized random phase only holograms
Optics Letters, 2018We propose a simple and efficient technique capable of generating Fourier phase only holograms with a reconstruction quality similar to the results obtained with the Gerchberg-Saxton (G-S) algorithm. Our proposal is to use the traditional G-S algorithm to optimize a random phase pattern for the resolution, pixel size, and target size of the general ...

Dual optimality of the phase-only filter
Optics Letters, 1988Horner and Gianino1 suggested a phase-only filter of unit modulus as a correlation filter for pattern recognition. This filter consists of the phase of the classical matched filter and Is commonly referred to as “the” phase-only filter (POF). The POF has the potential of 100% light throughput efficiency, and it has been demonstrated to yield sharp ...

Optimal representation of images by localized phase
1996 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing Conference Proceedings, 2002The POCS algorithm (projection onto convex sets) used for image reconstruction from spectral phase is investigated. The convergence rate of the algorithm is defined and analyzed, and the characteristics of images optimally represented by phase-only information are presented. It is concluded that images of geometric form are most efficiently represented

ORPO: Monolithic Preference Optimization without Reference Model
Conference on Empirical Methods in Natural Language ProcessingWhile recent preference alignment algorithms for language models have demonstrated promising results, supervised fine-tuning (SFT) remains imperative for achieving successful convergence.

Phase transition Particle Swarm Optimization
2014 IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC), 2014In nature, a phase transition is the transformation of a thermodynamic system from one phase to another. Different phases of a thermodynamic system have distinctive physical properties. Inspired by this natural phenomenon, this paper presents a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) based on the Phase Transitions model which consists of solid, liquid and ...

An alternating optimization approach for phase retrieval
Interspeech 2015, 2015In this paper, we address the problem of phase retrieval to recover a signal from the magnitude of its Fourier transform. In many applications of phase retrieval, the signals encountered are naturally sparse. In this work, we consider the case where the signal is sparse under the assumption that few components are nonzero. We exploit further the sparse

Phase optimization of a kinoform by simulated annealing
Applied Optics, 1994The design of a kinoform by the use of simulated annealing is discussed. The simulated annealing process is applied to decrease the reconstruction noise and to adjust the phase distribution of the kinoform to the configuration of the recording device. A liquid-crystal spatial light modulator is used to display the kinoform.

The Completion of the Optimization Phase
2018This chapter starts with the premise that an investigator has completed an optimization trial and analyzed the data. Now what? How does an investigator take these experimental results and use them to create an optimized intervention ? In other words, how does an investigator use empirical data from an optimization trial to make decisions about which ...
