Lens Cytoplasmic Phase Separation
1999Cytoplasmic transparency is a unique feature of lens cells. The cytoplasm is a concentrated solution of crystallin proteins with minor constituents that include cytoskeletal proteins and lens specific intermediate filaments. Under normal physiological conditions, the proteins exist as a single transparent phase.

Phase Separation Micromolding—PSμM
Advanced Materials, 2003Microstructures from a broad spectrum of materials, ranging from polymers to ceramics and metals, can be fabricated by phase separation micromolding (PSμM), a generic microfabrication technique. PSμM offers the possibility to introduce porosity; the process benefits from intrinsic shrinkage, which facilitates the fabrication of completely open ...

Photochemical Phase Transition versus Photochemical Phase Separation
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2006When a nematic liquid crystal is doped with a large amount of a liquid crystalline azobenzene compound (15 wt %), the photoisomerization of azobenzene under UV and visible light irradiation can give rise to reversible and interconvertible photochemical phase transition and photochemical phase separation. Both normal and reverse modes of photocontrolled

Independent Phase Analysis: Separating Phase-Locked Subspaces
2010We present a two-stage algorithm to perform blind source separation of sources organized in subspaces, where sources in different subspaces have zero phase synchrony and sources in the same subspace have full phase synchrony. Typical separation techniques such as ICA are not adequate for such signals, because phase-locked signals are not independent ...
