Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Compact, Wideband, Low-dispersion, Multi-bit MEMS Phase Shifters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Low-dispersion phase shifters are key components for electrically large phased-array radar and communication systems. Unlike true-time-delay phase shifters with linear dispersion, low-dispersion phase shifters can be designed by switching between right ...

Low Resolution Phase Shifters Suffice for Full-Duplex mmWave Communications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Full-duplex base-stations with half-duplex nodes, allowing simultaneous uplink and downlink from different nodes, have the potential to double the spectrum efficiency without adding additional complexity at mobile nodes.

Differential RF-MEMS Enabled Power Divider-Based Phase Shifters

open access: yesIEEE Access
New types of co-designed differential RF-MEMS enabled power divider-based phase shifters (PDPSs) are reported. They are based on T-junction power dividers co-integrated with single-pole $N$ -throw (SPNT) RF-MEMS switches that simultaneously control the ...

Decoding the dynamic extracellular matrix in cancer—3D models and bioscaffolds rewire the rules of tumor progression

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cancer progression is regulated by the dynamic matrix code of the tumor microenvironment, which influences cellular behavior and disease development. Importantly, matrix remodeling in three‐dimensional cancer models more accurately reflects in vivo conditions compared to conventional two‐dimensional systems.

Electronically Scanned Rotman Lens Antenna with Liquid Crystal Phase Shifters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The performance of a Rotman lens, which forms fixed beams at 0°, ±15° and ±30°, is augmented using liquid crystal phase shifters to simultaneously steer each beam by up to ±7.5°.

Toward the information-theoretic limit of programmable photonics [PDF]

open access: yesAPL Photonics
The scalability of many programmable photonic circuits is limited by the 2π tuning range needed for the constituent phase shifters. To address this problem, we introduce the concept of a phase-efficient circuit architecture, where the average phase shift

Identification of the plant mitochondrial OrfX protein: A mass spectrometry approach

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The mitochondrial genome of plants contains an open reading frame, orfx, which encodes a rare protein that has so far escaped mass spectrometric detection. The protein resembles the c‐subunit of bacterial twin‐arginine‐motif‐dependent protein translocases (TatC).

RF MEMS Phase Shifters and their Application in Phase Array Antennas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Electronically scanned arrays are required for space based radars that are capable of tracking multiple robots, rovers, or other assets simultaneously and for beam-hopping communication systems between the various assets.

Beam Scanning Antenna with Photonically Tuned EBG Phase Shifters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The rapidly growing communication market demands for powerful and low cost antenna systems operating at micro/mm-wave frequencies. Tunable phase shifters are the key components of steerable antennas.
