Post-dynamic α to β phase transformation and reverse transformation of Ti-5Al-3V alloy after hot deformation in two phase region

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2020
The microstructural evolutions and resulted mechanical responses during isothermal holding of multipass hot deformation are essential aspects in the processing of high performance titanium alloys. In this work, isothermal holding testing was performed on

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Strain glass-induced switch from transformation plasticity to reversible superelasticity in Ti-Zr-Ni-Cu alloys

open access: yesMaterials Research Letters, 2023
Reversibility of phase transformation, a basic requirement for functional properties of shape memory alloys, such as superelasticity, is severely affected by plastic deformation.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Pulmonary tuberculosis case detection in South Sudan

open access: yesSouth Sudan Medical Journal, 2012
Background: The National Tuberculosis (TB) Control Programme in South Sudan was created in 2006, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are its main implementers. Pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) is a major public health threat.

The anti‐CRISPR protein AcrIE8.1 inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system by directly binding to the Cascade subunit Cas11

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we present the structure of AcrIE8.1, a previously uncharacterized anti‐CRISPR protein that inhibits the type I‐E CRISPR‐Cas system. Through a combination of structural and biochemical analyses, we demonstrate that AcrIE8.1 directly binds to the Cas11 subunit of the Cascade complex to inhibit the CRISPR‐Cas system.

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.
