Phase Transitions in the Early Universe

2001
There are many familiar situations when the properties of some substance change abruptly with temperature T. For example, a liquid may be converted into a vapor or into a solid state. Phase transitions are associated with non-analyticities of the partition function of the system.

Phase transitions in the early Universe and their consequences

Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London. Series A, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1983
The reasons for believing that a number of phase transitions occurred in the early Universe are reviewed, and their implications discussed. In particular, the current status of the explanation for the observed values of some constants in terms of the ‘inflationary universe’ is examined.

An analytic model for phase transitions in the early Universe

Astronomische Nachrichten, 1985
AbstractA simplified model of the very early Universe is presented for studying the effects of the GUT phase transition on the cosmic evolution and vice versa. An exact description of a strongly first order phase transition is given. Both inflationary and non‐inflationray solutions are obtained.

Phase Transitions in the Early Universe and Defect Formation

1995
The currently accepted standard models of cosmology and particle physics, taken together, imply that early in its history the Universe underwent a series of symmetry-breaking phase transitions, at which topologically stable defects may have been formed.

Phase transitions and formation of bubbles in the early Universe

Physical Review D, 1992
We analyze the bubble-formation process that occurs when there is phase coexistence in the early Universe. In this paper we stress the relevance of determining the surface tension in order to compute some quantities that are relevent to cosmology such as the number density of bubbles, the contrast density, and the most probable sizes of bubbles ...

Invisible axions and the QCD phase transition in the early Universe

Physical Review D, 1986
We examine, in detail, the conditions under which the quark-hadron phase transition in the early Universe can influence the previously determined upper bound on the axion decay constant f/sub a/< or approx. =5 x 10/sup 12/ GeV. By integrating the axion equation of motion (in general and in a specific model) through the phase transition we find that if ...

Phase transition of the two Higgs doublets in early universe

International Journal of Modern Physics A, 2023
In this paper, we study the phase transition of the two Higgs-doublets model (2HDM) and consider a scenario of a electroweak phase transition at alignment limit. Using the Cornwall–Jackiw–Tomboulis formalism at finite temperature, we consider the phase transition of the aligned 2HDM in the two-loop double-bubble contribution.
