Photochemical Oxidative Cyclisation of Stilbenes and Stilbenoids—The Mallory-Reaction
After Mallory described in 1964 the use of iodine as catalyst for the photochemical cyclisation of stilbenes, this reaction has proven its effectiveness in the synthesis of phenanthrenes, other PAHs and phenacenes with a surprisingly large selection of ...

Ambident Reactivity in the Phenyl + NO Radical Recombination
ABSTRACT The recombination reaction of nitric oxide (NO) with radicals via its oxygen atom, rather than the more common nitrogen site, offers an intriguing pathway to the formation of oxynitrenes. The photochemical isomerization of nitroso compounds into their corresponding oxynitrenes may involve such a step.

An efficient Scholl–based strategy enables precise control of the C–C bond to access the first hexabenzocoronene–containing helical twistacene (NG2). The resulting nanographene shows pronounced helical distortion, high stability, enhanced solubility, and promising redox and optoelectronic properties.

Remarkable effect of alkynyl substituents on the fluorescence properties of a BN-phenanthrene
A series of BN-phenanthrenes with substituents of a diverse nature have been synthesized by palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of a common chloro-substituted precursor, which was made from readily available materials in only four steps ...

Chemical Constituents from the Aerial Parts of Cyrtopodium paniculatum
We report the first phytochemical study of the neotropical orchid Cyrtopodium paniculatum. Eight new compounds, including one phenanthrene 1, one 9,10-dihydro-phenanthrene 2, one hydroxybenzylphenanthrene 3, two biphenanthrenes 4–5, and three 9,10 ...

Cytotoxic effect of selected wild orchids on two different human cancer cell lines
Majority of the orchid species are used in the traditional medicines for the treatment of several diseases. They are the sources of polysaccharides, phenanthrenes, bibenzyl derivatives, revesteral, stilbenoids and polyphenol compounds.

Metal‐Free Electrophilic Borylative Cyclizations of Alkynes
Metal‐free borylative cyclizations based on electrophilic alkyne activation by boron Lewis acids provide efficient access to borylated hetero‐ and carbocycles. Early studies using B(C6F5)3 displayed limited scope and application, whereas recent ClBcat‐ and BCl3‐based methods enable mild CB and CC/CX bond formation for the synthesis of cycles ...
