Translational aspects of the novel object recognition task in rats abstinent following sub-chronic treatment with phencyclidine (PCP): effects of modafinil and relevance to cognitive deficits in schizophrenia?

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry, 2010
Phencyclidine (PCP) induces a behavioural syndrome in rodents that bears remarkable similarities to some of the core symptoms observed in schizophrenic patients, among those cognitive deficits.

Role of 5-HT receptor mechanisms in sub-chronic PCP-induced reversal learning deficits in the rat [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
YesRationale: 5-HT receptor mechanisms have been suggested to mediate improvements in cognition in schizophrenia. Aim: To investigate the involvement of 5-HT receptor mechanisms in sub-chronic PCP-induced reversal learning deficits in female rats, a task

Chlorinated Paracyclophanes: Composition Analysis and Direct Metal‐Free Alkylation with n‐BuLi

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, EarlyView.
A transition‐metal‐free alkylation of pseudo‐para dichloro[2.2]paracyclophane (Cl2‐PCP) is reported, utilizing the purified pseudo‐para isomer and n‐butyllithium (BuLi). Optimization with the chelating agent TMEDA and refluxing n‐heptane significantly boosted selectivity and reaction rate, providing the dialkylated product in 22% isolated yield.

Blockade of voltage-gated K+ currents in rat mesenteric arterial smooth muscle cells by MK801

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2015
MK801 (dizocilpine), a phencyclidine (PCP) derivative, is a potent noncompetitive antagonist of the N-Methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAr). Another PCP derivative, ketamine, was reported to block voltage-gated K+ (Kv) channels, which was independent of ...

Role of Thalamic Projection in NMDA Receptor-Induced Disruption of Cortical Slow Oscillation and Short-Term Plasticity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
NMDA receptor (NMDAR) antagonists, such as phencyclidine, ketamine or dizocilpine (MK-801) are commonly used in psychiatric drug discovery in order to model several symptoms of schizophrenia, including psychosis and impairments in working memory.

Ambient technology in epilepsy clinical practice

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract The utilization of large language model‐based artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of neurology has gained attention as a viable tool to enhance and assist providers with processes ranging from scheduling patients to providing preliminary interpretations of testing results, pending orders, and documenting encounters. Epileptologists could

Involvement of Serotonin Receptor Mechanisms in the Discriminative Stimulus Effects of Ketamine in Rats

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2013
We have demonstrated previously that the ketamine-induced discriminative stimulus effect is likely to reflect the phencyclidine-like psychotomimetic effects. Therefore, the present study was designed to investigate the effects of the antipsychotics and 5-

Seismic Assessment Procedure for Exterior Reinforced Concrete Beam–Column Joints With Slab and Transverse Beams

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article presents a capacity‐based assessment procedure for beam–column (b–c) joints of reinforced concrete frames with floor slabs and transverse beams. The procedure extends a previously proposed assessment methodology for determining the hierarchy of strengths and the sequence of events in symmetrically reinforced planar b–c joints.
