In Search of Catalytic Antioxidants(Alkyltelluro)phenols, (Alkyltelluro)resorcinols, and Bis(alkyltelluro)phenols

open access: yes, 2016
The quenching of peroxyl radicals by ortho-(alkyltelluro)phenols occurs by a more complex mechanism than formal H-atom transfer. In an effort to improve on this concept, we have prepared (alkyltelluro)resorcinols and bis(alkyltelluro)phenols and ...

Targeting Post‐Irradiation Thyroid Dysfunction: Electrospun Scaffolds As A Dual‐Action Approach for Antioxidant and Immune Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Radiation‐induced hypothyroidism follows head and neck radiotherapy due to oxidative stress and inflammation. Electrospun polycaprolactone scaffolds containing adenosine have potential to modulate thyroid repair. Scaffolds enhance thyrocyte proliferation, antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase and catalase, reduce senescence and apoptosis markers ...

Formation of meta-Arylsulfanyl- and meta-(Alkylsulfanyl)phenols from Cyclohexane-1,3-diones

open access: yes, 2018
Reaction of cyclohexane-1,3-diones with TsCl/Et3N and treatment of the resulting 3-(tosyloxy)cyclohex-2-en-1-ones with aryl- or alkyl thiols and K2CO3 in MeCN gives 3-(arylsulfanyl)cyclohex-2-en-1-ones or (alkylsulfanyl)cyclohex-2-en-1-ones, respectively.

Exosomes transport trace amounts of (poly)phenols

open access: yes, 2020
(Poly)phenols have varied biological activities that may account for the beneficial effects of fruits and vegetables as part of a healthy diet. Although their cellular absorption and their many mechanisms of action have been partly elucidated, their ...

Design and Synthesis of Peptide‐Polyester Conjugates for Cell‐Mediated Scaffold Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work describes polycaprolactone (PCL)‐based biomaterials engineered to degrade in response to cell‐secreted proteases. A fast‐degrading peptide (Fast) sequence is integrated into a PCL conjugate backbone to produce a biomaterial that is selectively degraded by multiple cell types compared to its scrambled control (ScrFast).

Development of a Synthetic Hydrogel to Foster Microvascularization of an Endometriosis Microphysiological System

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The ascent of novel alternative methods in drug development spotlights the dual needs for improved biological fidelity to in vivo, along with reproducibility, especially in regulatory applications. The need for pre‐clinical models of patient‐derived endometriosis lesions motivates the development of a vascularizable, completely synthetic ...

Environ Pollut [PDF]

open access: yes
Adipokines, cytokines secreted by adipose tissue, may contribute to obesity-related metabolic disease. The role of environmental phenols and parabens in racial difference in metabolic disease burden has been suggested, but there is limited evidence.

Nanobody‐Conjugated Theranostic Prodrug Targeting αvβ3 Integrin Enables Precision Cancer Therapy With Real‐Time Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The image shows a schematic form a nanobody‐conjugated theranostic prodrug (NBD) platform targeting tumor‐associated αvβ3 integrin. The NBD system integrates selective nanobody‐mediated tumor recognition, glutathione‐responsive disulfide cleavage for doxorubicin release, and aza‐BODIPY‐based near‐infrared fluorescence for real‐time imaging.

Copper-Catalyzed One-Pot Multicomponent Coupling Reaction of Phenols, Amides, and 4-Bromphenyl Iodide

open access: yes, 2008
An efficient copper-catalyzed multicomponent reaction of phenols, amides, and 4-bromphenyl iodide was developed that uses commercially available N,N-dimethylglycine as the ligand.
