Molecular cloning and expression of the phenoxazinone synthase gene from Streptomyces antibioticus.
DNA fragments from the Streptomyces antibioticus genome have been cloned in Streptomyces lividans using the SphI site of the vector, pIJ702. Using a sib selection procedure, transformants were screened for their ability to produce levels of the enzyme, phenoxazinone synthase, which were detectable by enzyme assay.

Summary Diatoms are a major phylum of microalgae, playing crucial ecological roles. They derive from secondary endosymbiosis, leading to a complex intracellular architecture. Their ability to store oil in lipid droplets (LDs) upon unfavourable conditions has raised interest for applications, in particular biofuels, yet Lipid Droplet (LD) biogenesis ...

Beyond Phenolics: Alternative Substrates for Type III Copper Enzymes
The copper‐containing metalloenzyme tyrosinase is well known for synthesis of melanin pigments and enzymatic browning of fruits and vegetables. These reactions proceed from phenolics, but tyrosinases can also convert aromatic amines. This perspective brings together the scarce data on the enzymatic conversion of non‐phenolic substrates by these ...

Redox‐Induced Aromatic Substitution: A Study on Guanidino‐Functionalized Aromatics
Oxidation of a redox‐active aromatic molecule leads to an umpolung from a nucleophile to an electrophile, enabling addition of a nucleophile as part of an aromatic substitution. Thereby a variety of new, non‐symmetrically substituted redox‐active compounds could be synthesized.
