The first chapter summarizes the goals of the dissertation and introduces most of the constraints used later in the work. The main goal of this work is to characterize sequences of consonants by characterizing codas in the most general way possible.

Abstract In this chapter the strcture of lexical items in terms of segment sequencing will be discussed. It is organized as follows. In Section 3.1 I shall introduce the Jexical architecture assumed, and in Section 3.2 I shall go on to discuss the phonotactic principles that constrain segment sequences in the lexicon.

Phonotactic behavior of crickets
Journal of Comparative Physiology ? A, 1977Comparative study of phonotactic reactions of females of 5 species of crickets to the calling song (CS) of conspecific males and different sound models in Y-maze experiments showed: 1. InGryllodinus kerkennensis the essential property of the signal is the continuity of the song (Fig 3). 2. InGryllus campestris andG.

Rethinking Phonotactic Complexity
2019In this work, we propose the use of phone-level language models to estimate phonotactic complexity—measured in bits per phoneme—which makes cross-linguistic comparison straightforward. We compare the entropy across languages using this simple measure, gaining insight on how complex different language’s phonotactics are.

Phonotactics in Inductive Logic Programming
2004We examine the results of applying inductive logic programming (ILP) to a relatively simple linguistic task, that of recognizing monosyllables in one language. ILP is suited to linguistic problems given linguists' preference for formulating their theories in discrete rules, and because of ILP's ability to incorporate various background theories. But it

Phonotactics: Syllable Structure
2000Abstract The phonological or phonotactic well-formedness of a word can be seen as an interplay of two factors: a prosodic and a non-prosodic one. On the one hand, a phonologically well-formed word must be parsable into (wellformed) prosodic units.

Preattentive phonotactic processing

Losing Phonotactic Distinctions in Context
Cognitive ScienceAbstractPrevious psycholinguistic research has demonstrated that sentence processing varies according to both syntactic and discourse context. However, a systematic investigation of how such contexts influence how the processor manages low‐level representations of linguistic structure has yet to be carried out.

AbstractThe chapter looks at the central syllable generalizations for onsets and nuclei, and then turns to an overview of phonotactic patternings in initial and final clusters. A distinction is made between morphologically simple and morphologically complex clusters in final position.

Phonotactics is the study of restrictions on possible sound sequences in a language. In any language, some phonotactic constraints can be stated without reference to morphology, but many of the more nuanced phonotactic generalizations do make use of morphosyntactic and lexical information.
