Phosphatidylethanolamine biosynthesis in isolated hamster heart

Canadian Journal of Biochemistry, 1982
The pathways leading to the formation of phosphatidylethanolamine in isolated hamster hearts were investigated. The contributions of the CDP-ethanolamine and the base exchange pathways were studied by perfusion with [3H]ethanolamine. The radioactivity of ethanolamine in the heart reached a maximum at 5 min of perfusion and remained constant throughout

13C-enriched phosphatidylethanolamines from Escherichia coli

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1975
Escherichia coli have been grown using [1-13C]acetate and [2-13C]acetate as the sole carbon source. The 13C NMR spectra of the whole cells and spheroplasts can be readily obtained but give limited information. The 13C NMR spectra of t-e isolated 13C-enriched phosphatidylethanolamines are assigned and analysed to give the biosynthetic pathway for ...

Diacylglycerol-phosphatidylethanolamine exchange in Escherichia coli

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1989
The conversion of [3H]- or [14C]diacylglycerol to labelled phosphatidylethanolamine by dialysed, particulate fraction of Escherichia coli was studied. The reaction occurred in the presence of hydroxylamine, under which conditions, the synthesis of [14C]phosphatidylethanolamine from CDP-diacylglycerol and [14C]serine did not occur.

Phosphatidylcholine homeostasis in phosphatidylethanolamine-depleted Tetrahymena

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1986
The relative contributions of the two pathways of phosphatidylcholine biosynthesis, phosphatidylethanolamine N-methyltransferase (EC 2.1.1.17) and diacylglycerol: CDP-choline cholinephosphotransferase (EC 2.7.8.1), are altered in the ciliate protozoan Tetrahymena thermophila whose phospholipid composition has been modified by culturing the organism in ...

Infrared spectra of phosphatidylethanolamine–cardiolipin binary system

Colloids and Surfaces B: Biointerfaces, 2008
We report on the infrared spectra of binary di-palmitoyl-phosphatidyl-ethanolamine-cardiolipin (DPPE 1-x CLPx) monolayers and multilamellar vesicles as a function of CLP molar fraction x and temperature T. These data, which clearly show the presence of, at least, two kind of lipid domains with different thermodynamic stability and ordering of the lipid

Structural differences among phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine, and mixed phosphatidylcholine/ phosphatidylethanolamine multilayers: An infrared absorption study

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1978
Abstract We have examined the infrared absorption spectra from 4000 to 250 cm −1 of multilayers of phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine, and phosphatidylcholine/phosphatidylethanolamine (1:1 m / m ) as a function of hydration, pH, and fatty acid composition.

Effect of membrane phosphatidylethanolamine‐deficiency/phosphatidylcholine‐excess on the metabolism of phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine

Journal of Cellular Physiology, 1992
AbstractCells of epithelial origin generally require ethanolamine (Etn) to grow in defined culture medium. When such cells are grown without Etn, the membrane phospholipid composition changes drastically, becoming phosphatidylethanolamine (PE)‐deficient due to a reduced de novo rate of PE synthesis, and growth stops.
