Solid-phase phosphatidylethanolamine synthesis

Reactive Polymers, 1989
Abstract Dipalmitoylphosphatidylethanolamine(DPPE) was prepared from natural phosphatidylethanolamine (cephalin) and palmitic anhydride (PAh) by using polymer-supported trityl as a protective group for the ammo group of cephalin.

Effect of membrane phosphatidylethanolamine‐deficiency/phosphatidylcholine‐excess on the metabolism of phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine

Journal of Cellular Physiology, 1992
AbstractCells of epithelial origin generally require ethanolamine (Etn) to grow in defined culture medium. When such cells are grown without Etn, the membrane phospholipid composition changes drastically, becoming phosphatidylethanolamine (PE)‐deficient due to a reduced de novo rate of PE synthesis, and growth stops.

Phosphatidylethanolamine – in a pinch

Trends in Cell Biology, 2000
Cells actively modulate the lipid composition of the cytoplasmic and outer leaflets of their membranes. Plasma membranes, for example, contain the aminophospholipids phosphatidylethanolamine (PtdEtn) and phosphatidylserine (PtdSer) mainly in the cytoplasmic side of the bilayer.

Metabolism of phosphatidylethanolamine in the frog retina

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1980
The synthesis and the turnover of phosphatidylethanolamine in frog retinal rod outer segments and microsomes were studied by monitoring the incorporation of five radioactive precursors: 32PO4, 33PO4 [3H]glycerol, [3H]serine, and [3H]ethanolamine. 1. Labeled serine was actively incorporated into phosphatidylethanolamine.

Physiological roles of phosphatidylethanolamine N-methyltransferase [PDF]

open access: yesBiochimica Et Biophysica Acta - Molecular and Cell Biology of Lipids, 2013
Phosphatidylethanolamine N-methyltransferase (PEMT) catalyzes the methylation of phosphatidylethanolamine to phosphatidylcholine (PC). This 22.3 kDa protein is localized to the endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondria associated membranes of liver. The supply of the substrates AdoMet and phosphatidylethanolamine, and the product AdoHcy, can regulate the ...

Bioactive aldehyde-modified phosphatidylethanolamines

Biochimie, 2013
Lipid peroxidation generates a variety of lipid aldehydes, which have been recognized to modify protein and DNA, causing inflammation and cancer. However, recent studies demonstrate that phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) is a major target for these aldehydes, forming aldehyde-modified PEs (al-PEs) as a novel family of mediators for inflammation.

Metabolism of chylomicron phosphatidylethanolamine in the rat

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1984
10 min after intravenous injection of 32P-labelled chylomicrons 69% of the [32P]phosphatidylethanolamine, but only 34% of the [32P]phosphatidylcholine, was cleared from plasma. Over this time period the plasma phosphatidylethanolamine concentration that was increased after the chylomicron injection returned to normal, indicating that the rapid ...

Thermotropic behavior of phosphatidylethanolamine-cholesterol and phosphatidylethanolamine-phosphatidylcholine-cholesterol mixtures

Biochemistry, 1980
The thermotropic behavior of aqueous dispersions of phosphatidylethanolamine-cholesterol and phosphatidyl-ethanolamine-phosphatidylcholine-cholesterol mixtures has been studied by high-sensitivity differential scanning calorimetry. The gel to liquid-crystalline phase transition of phosphatidylethanolamines is broadened and shifted to lower temperature ...

In vitro glycation and glycoxidation of phosphatidylethanolamines

Free Radical Biology and Medicine, 2014
Formation and accumulation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) appear to correlate with many human diseases, such as atherosclerosis and inflammation. Whereas AGE-modified proteins relatively well studied, aminophospholipid AGE-adducts have been less intensively investigated.

Chemical methylation of phosphatidylethanolamine by S-adenosylmethionine

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1985
The chemical methylation of phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) by S-adenosyl methionine (SAM) is most active when carried out at alkaline pH's. Phosphatidylmonomethylethanolamine (PMME) and phosphatidyldimethylethanolamine are less effective reactants. The PE present in the microsomal and myelin membrane can serve as an acceptor in this reaction. Thin layer
