Sex‐Associated Metabolites and Incident Stroke, Incident Coronary Heart Disease, Hypertension, and Chronic Kidney Disease in the REGARDS Cohort

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease
Background Sex disparities exist in cardiometabolic diseases. Metabolomic profiling offers insight into disease mechanisms, as the metabolome is influenced by environmental and genetic factors. We identified metabolites associated with sex and determined

Dynamic Shifts in ER–Plasma Membrane Junctions Signaling Define Pro‐Metastatic N‐Glycosylation and Predict Prostate Cancer Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Prostate cancer remains a leading cause of male cancer death, yet screening cannot reliably identify aggressive disease, underscoring the need for tissue biomarkers. It is shown that primary tumors increase ER–plasma membrane junction signaling via STIM1/ORP5, whereas metastasis features their loss, Golgi dispersal, and rapid conversion of high‐mannose

Fluctuations in mixtures of lamellar- and nonlamellar-forming lipids

open access: yes, 2000
We consider the role of nonlamellar-forming lipids in biological membranes by examining fluctuations, within the random phase approximation, of a model mixture of two lipids, one of which forms lamellar phases while the other forms inverted hexagonal ...

The BnTFL1‐BnJAM3‐BnSWEETs Module Orchestrates Seed Storage Reserve Accumulation in Brassica napus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
BnaC03.TFL1 and BnaA01.JAM3 form a complex that facilitates the transport of soluble sugars from the seed coat to the embryo by directly activating the expression of BnSWEETs. Furthermore, BnaC03.TFL1 and BnaA01.JAM3 work cooperatively to promote soluble sugar and oil production while suppressing protein deposition.

Investigating the association of the plasma lipidomic profile with cognitive performance and genetic risk in the PsyCourse study

open access: yesTranslational Psychiatry
Although lipid biology may play a key role in the pathophysiology of mental health disorders such as schizophrenia (SCZ) and bipolar disorder (BD), the nature of this interplay and how it could shape phenotypic presentation, including cognitive ...

Phase transitions in biological membranes

open access: yes, 2018
Native membranes of biological cells display melting transitions of their lipids at a temperature of 10-20 degrees below body temperature. Such transitions can be observed in various bacterial cells, in nerves, in cancer cells, but also in lung ...

Lipidomics of human umbilical cord serum : identification of unique sterol sulfates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Aim: There are currently limited lipidomics data for human umbilical cord blood. Therefore, the lipidomes of cord sera from six newborns and sera from six nonpregnant females were compared.

Lyophilized Synthetic Platelets: In Vitro Characterization and in Vivo Evaluation in Mouse Thrombocytopenia Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Platelet transfusions to treat bleeding complications use donor‐derived platelets stored at room‐temperature, that have a shelf‐life of only 5–7 days due to bacterial contamination risks. Cold‐stored and freeze‐dried platelets are being investigated for extending shelf‐life, but these still have the inherent challenge of donor‐dependency.

Investigating plasma lipid profiles in association with Parkinson’s disease risk

open access: yesnpj Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is associated with lipid metabolic disturbances, but the specific roles of lipids in its pathogenesis are unclear. This Mendelian Randomization (MR) study utilized GWAS data and IVW methods to investigate plasma lipids and PD ...

Lipidomic Adaptations in White and Brown Adipose Tissue in Response to Exercise Demonstrate Molecular Species-Specific Remodeling

open access: yesCell Reports, 2017
Exercise improves whole-body metabolic health through adaptations to various tissues, including adipose tissue, but the effects of exercise training on the lipidome of white adipose tissue (WAT) and brown adipose tissue (BAT) are unknown.
