Short-chain phosphatidylethanolamines: physical properties and susceptibility of the monomers to phospholipase A2 action.

Biochemistry, 1985
The homologous series of optically active short-chain phosphatidylethanolamines (PE) from dibutyryl-PE to dioctanoyl-PE was synthesized. In addition, two monomeric short-chain phospholipid analogues that are not degraded by phospholipase A2 (1,2-bis ...

Influence of retinoids on phosphatidylethanolamine lipid polymorphism

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1992
The interaction of all-trans-retinoic acid and all-trans-retinol with dielaidoylphosphatidylethanolamine has been studied by differential scanning calorimetry and 31P-NMR spectroscopy. Increasing concentrations of all-trans-retinoic acid up to a mol fraction of 0.09 were found to induce shifts to lower temperatures of both the L beta to L alpha and L ...

Diacylglycerols, lysolecithin, or hydrocarbons markedly alter the bilayer to hexagonal phase transition temperature of phosphatidylethanolamines.

Biochemistry, 1985
The bilayer to hexagonal phase transition temperatures of dielaidoylphosphatidylethanolamine and 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoylphosphatidylethanolamine are 65.6 and 71.4 degrees C, respectively.

Synthesis of radio-isotopically labelled phosphatidylethanolamines

Chemistry and Physics of Lipids, 1974
Abstract The total chemical synthesis of di and tri-radioisotopically labelled 1–2 dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphorylethanolamine (PE) labelled with 14C-(diacyl) and 32P and 14C-(diacyl), 32P and 3H-(ethanolamine) are described. Due to the short half-life of the 32P isotope in the time consuming synthesis of the intramolecularly tri-labelled ...

A convenient synthesis of phosphatidylethanolamines

Chemistry and Physics of Lipids, 1967
Silver-t-butyl-(N-t-butyloxycarbonyl-2-aminoethyl) phosphate was synthesized. Coupling of this compound with 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-glycerol-3-iodohydrin, followed by removal of both protecting groups, gave, after recrystallization (without chromatography) pure 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-3-phosphatidylethanolamine in 55% yield.

The possible functional significance of phosphatidylethanolamine methylation

Nature, 1980
The conversion of phosphatidylethanolamine to phosphatidylcholine was first reported in rat liver microsomes by Bremer and Greenberg. The reaction requires three successive methylations of the ethanolamine moiety by S-adenosylmethionine. The highest activity for this enzyme has been found in liver microsomes and the enzyme from rat liver was recently ...

Facile and high yielding syntheses of phosphatidylcholines and phosphatidylethanolamines containing 2H-labeled acyl chains

, 1984
Improved reliable methods for the partial chemical synthesis of phosphatidylcholines and phosphatidylethanolamines are described. Glycerophosphorylcholine (GPC) as its cadmium chloride complex was acylated rapidly (3 hr) with deuterated acyl anhydrides ...

Phosphatidylethanolamine N-methyltransferase from liver

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1997
Phosphatidylethanolamine N-methyltransferase (PEMT) converts phosphatidylethanolamine to phosphatidylcholine. Most PEMT activity (PEMT1) is associated with endoplasmic reticulum. A second form of the enzyme (PEMT2) has been localized to the mitochondria-associated membrane. PEMT2 is a 22.5-kDa protein that has been purified from rat liver.

Kinetics of bromine transfer across Langmuir monolayers of phosphatidylethanolamines at the water/air interface

, 2003
The kinetics of Br2 transfer across phosphatidylethanolamine monolayers at the water/air (W/A) interface have been investigated using scanning electrochemical microscopy–double potential step chronoamperometry (SECM-DPSC).
