Blockage of glycolysis by targeting PFKFB3 suppresses the development of infantile hemangioma

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine, 2023
Background Infantile hemangioma (IH) is the most common tumor among infants, but the exact pathogenesis of IH is largely unknown. Our previous study revealed that glucose metabolism may play an important role in the pathogenesis of IH and that the ...

Unique PFK regulatory property from some mosquito vectors of disease, and from Drosophila melanogaster [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Effect of F2, 6BP on Aedes aegypti PFK activity. PFK activity was measured at pH = 7.4, 1 mM F6P, 5 mM ATP at several F2, 6BP concentrations (0.01–50 μM). Values are the means ± SEM of three independent experiments.

The relative importance of kinetic mechanisms and variable enzyme abundances for the regulation of hepatic glucose metabolism – insights from mathematical modeling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background Adaptation of the cellular metabolism to varying external conditions is brought about by regulated changes in the activity of enzymes and transporters.

Coxsackievirus B3 infection induces glycolysis to facilitate viral replication

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) is a leading cause of viral myocarditis, but no effective treatment strategy against CVB3 is available. Viruses lack an inherent metabolic system and thus depend on host cellular metabolism for their benefit.

Adaptation to HIF-1 deficiency by upregulation of the AMP/ATP ratio and phosphofructokinase activation in hepatomas

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2011
Background HIF-1 deficiency has marked effects on tumour glycolysis and growth. We therefore investigated the consequences of HIF-1 deficiency in mice, using the well established Hepa-1 wild-type (WT) and HIF-1β-deficient (c4) model.

Vanadate influence on metabolism of sugar phosphates in fungus Phycomyces blakesleeanus. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The biological and chemical basis of vanadium action in fungi is relatively poorly understood. In the present study, we investigate the influence of vanadate (V5+) on phosphate metabolism of Phycomyces blakesleeanus.

Some characteristics of Rabbit muscle phosphofructokinase-1 inhibition by ascorbate

open access: yesJournal of Enzyme Inhibition and Medicinal Chemistry, 2008
These studies relate to a working hypothesis that glycogen storage is facilitated in resting muscle by inhibiting glycolysis via inhibition of LDH, AK, and PFK-1 by ascorbate; when muscle is active, these isozymes combine with muscle proteins and are released and protected from inhibition by ascorbate and glycolysis proceeds.

Matrix Rigidity Regulates Cancer Cell Growth by Modulating Cellular Metabolism and Protein Synthesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background: Tumor cells in vivo encounter diverse types of microenvironments both at the site of the primary tumor and at sites of distant metastases. Understanding how the various mechanical properties of these microenvironments affect the biology of ...

Substrate antagonism in the kinetic mechanism of E. coli phosphofructokinase‐1

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 1991
In the presence of its allosteric activator GDP, the major phosphofructokinase‐1 from Escherichia coli K12 follows Michaelis—Menten kinetics. The kinetic behavior observed at steady‐state using different concentrations of the substrates ATP and fructose‐6‐phosphate and the pattern of inhibition by the substrate analogs adenylyl‐(β,γ‐methylene ...

Sodium bicarbonate treatment during transient or sustained lactic acidemia in normoxic and normotensive rats. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
INTRODUCTION: Lactic acidosis is a frequent cause of poor outcome in the intensive care settings. We set up an experimental model of lactic acid infusion in normoxic and normotensive rats to investigate the systemic effects of lactic acidemia per se ...
