Molecular and biochemical characterisation of Trypanosoma cruzi phosphofructokinase

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2009
The characterisation of the gene encoding Trypanosoma cruzi CL Brener phosphofructokinase (PFK) and the biochemical properties of the expressed enzyme are reported here. In contradiction with previous reports, the PFK genes of CL Brener and YBM strain T.

Mutations in muscle phosphofructokinase gene [PDF]

open access: yesHuman Mutation, 1995
Mutations in the muscle phosphofructokinase gene (PFK-M) result in a metabolic myopathy characterized by exercise intolerance and compensated hemolysis. PFK deficiency, glycogenosis type VII (Tarui disease) is a rare, autosomal, recessively inherited disorder.

The platelet isoform of phosphofructokinase contributes to metabolic reprogramming and maintains cell proliferation in clear cell renal cell carcinoma

open access: yesOncoTarget, 2016
Metabolic alterations underlying clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) progression include aerobic glycolysis, increased pentose phosphate pathway activity and reduced oxidative phosphorylation. Phosphofructokinase (PFK), a key enzyme of the glycolytic

Transgene coding of a key enzyme of the glycolytic pathway helps to decrease sugar content in potato tubers

open access: yesCzech Journal of Genetics and Plant Breeding, 2012
Cold-stored potato tubers gradually accumulate reducing sugars. A proposed reason is a cold-induced blocking of glycolysis. The introduction and expression of the bacterial gene Lbpfk coding for cold-tolerant phosphofructokinase might counteract this ...

Phosphofructokinase deficiency impairs ATP generation, autophagy, and redox balance in rheumatoid arthritis T cells

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Medicine, 2013
T cells from RA patients are hypoglycolytic due to insufficient induction of the glycolytic activator PFKFB3, resulting in impaired autophagy and reduced ROS production.

Glycolysis Is Dynamic and Relates Closely to Respiration Rate in Stored Sugarbeet Roots

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2017
Although respiration is the principal cause of the loss of sucrose in postharvest sugarbeet (Beta vulgaris L.), the internal mechanisms that control root respiration rate are unknown. Available evidence, however, indicates that respiration rate is likely

Neonatal Vitamin C and Cysteine Deficiencies Program Adult Hepatic Glutathione and Specific Activities of Glucokinase, Phosphofructokinase, and Acetyl-CoA Carboxylase in Guinea Pigs’ Livers

open access: yesAntioxidants, 2021
Premature neonates are submitted to an early-life oxidative stress from parenteral nutrition, which is vitamin C (VC) deficient and induces low endogenous levels of glutathione.

Hereditary Phosphofructokinase Deficiency in Wachtelhunds [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Animal Hospital Association, 2011
Hereditary phosphofructokinase (PFK) deficiency was diagnosed in two Wachtelhund dogs and suspected in three related Wachtelhund dogs with exercise intolerance, hemolytic anemia, and pigmenturia. Severe, persistent reticulocytosis in light of only mild anemia together with hemoglobinuria after strenuous exercise suggested PFK deficiency.

Expression of Phosphofructokinase in Skeletal Muscle Is Influenced by Genetic Variation and Associated With Insulin Sensitivity

open access: yesDiabetes, 2014
Using an integrative approach in which genetic variation, gene expression, and clinical phenotypes are assessed in relevant tissues may help functionally characterize the contribution of genetics to disease susceptibility.

Genome-wide identification of the PFK gene family and their expression analysis in Quercus rubra

open access: yesFrontiers in Genetics, 2023
The glycolytic pathway involves phosphofructokinase (PFK), a rate-limiting enzyme that catalyzes the phosphorylation of fructose-6-phosphate. In plants, the two PFK members are ATP-dependent phosphofructokinase (PFK) and pyrophosphate-fructose-6 ...
