Activation of phospholipase C beta 2 by the alpha and beta gamma subunits of trimeric GTP-binding protein [PDF]
Cotransfection assays were used to show that the members of the GTP-binding protein Gq class of alpha subunits could activate phospholipase C (PLC) beta 2.

Disruption of Vitamin D and Calcium Signaling in Keratinocytes Predisposes to Skin Cancer. [PDF]
1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25(OH)2D), the active metabolite of vitamin D, and calcium regulate epidermal differentiation. 1,25(OH)2D exerts its effects through the vitamin D receptor (VDR), a transcription factor in the nuclear hormone receptor family ...

ABSTRACT Background Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen in cystic fibrosis‐related chronic rhinosinusitis (CF‐CRS) that produces phenazine metabolites pyocyanin and 1‐hydroxyphenazine (1‐HP), which may have detrimental effects on mitochondria, reactive oxygen species (ROS), Ca2+ signaling, and apoptosis.

Egg phosphatidyl ethanolamine is degraded to lysophosphatidyl ethanolamine and fatty acids by a phospholipase in post-heparin plasma at rates of 10 to 30 μmoles/hr per ml plasma. The optimal system for measuring this enzyme contained albumin and (NH4)2SO4, and the optimal pH was 8.8–9.1.

Secretory phospholipase A2 (sPLA2) is a growing family of structurally related, disulfide-rich, low molecular weight, lipolytic enzymes with a His-Asp catalytic dyad. sPLA2s are distributed in a wide variety of vertebrate and invertebrate animals, plants, bacteria, and viruses, and there are 10 catalytically active sPLA2 isozymes in mammals.

Assessing the Utility of Broad-Acting Inhibitors as Therapeutics in Diverse Venoms
Examination of venom constituent bioactivities from diverse venomous animals shows certain highly conserved classes, including enzymes (e.g., phospholipases and metalloproteinases) and pore-forming proteins.

Plant phospholipid signaling: “in a nutshell”
Since the discovery of the phosphoinositide/phospholipase C (PI/PLC) system in animal systems, we know that phospholipids are much more then just structural components of biological membranes.

This study was to evaluate the role of GH in lipolysis and insulin sensitivity in bovine adipocytes and clarify the underlying mechanism. Our findings demonstrate that GH activates ERK/HSL signaling pathway, promotes lipolysis, and impairs insulin sensitivity in bovine adipocytes.
