Glutathione Peroxidase Isolated from Plasma Reduces Phospholipid Hydroperoxides
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1993The reactivities of a selenoenzyme, glutathione peroxidase isolated from plasma, against phosphatidylcholine hydroperoxides and photoperoxidized erythrocyte ghosts have been investigated. Glutathione peroxidase isolated from plasma was found to catalyze the reduction of phosphatidylcholine hydroperoxides to the corresponding hydroxy derivatives.

Physiological role of phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase in mammals
bchm, 2007Abstract The redox enzyme phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase (PHGPx) has emerged as one of the most significant selenoenzymes in mammals, corroborated by early embryonic lethality of PHGPx null mice. PHGPx is one of five selenium-dependent glutathione peroxidases and the second glutathione peroxidase to be discovered in ...

Possible function of two insect phospholipid-hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidases
Journal of Insect Physiology, 2003We compared the functional properties of two insect members of the phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidases (PHGPx) family, VLP1, a major component of virus-like particles from the hymenopteran endoparasitoid Venturia canescens and its closest Drosophila relative, one of the putative PHGPx-proteins predicted from the Berkeley Drosophila ...

Purification of phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase from bovine retina
Current Eye Research, 1993A low molecular size peroxidase with a high affinity for phospholipid hydroperoxide was purified from bovine retina by sequential extraction with low and high ionic strength buffer, followed by ammonium sulfate fractionation, chromatography on an ultraspherogel column and Protein PAK-SP column.

Severe steroidogenic and spermatogenic alterations are reported in association with diabetic manifestations in humans and experimental animals. This study was planned to determine whether oxidative stress is involved in diabetes-induced alterations in the testes. Diabetes was induced in male rats by injection of 50 mg/kg of streptozotocin (STZ).

Putative phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase from Antrodia camphorata
Food Chemistry, 2009Abstract Glutathione Peroxidases (GPxs) play important roles in antioxidation. A cDNA (Ac-PHGPx, 764 bp) encoding a putative phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase (PHGPx) from Antrodia camphorata has been cloned. The deduced amino acid sequence is conserved among the reported GPxs.

A Selenium‐Containing Phospholipid‐Hydroperoxide Glutathione Peroxidase in Schistosoma mansoni
European Journal of Biochemistry, 1996The 1000000×g supernatant of the parasite platyhelminth Schistosoma mansoni exhibits a glutathione peroxidase activity with the substrate phosphatidylcholine hydroperoxide. Purification yielded a protein of 20 kDa molecular mass both on gel filtration column chromatography and SDS/PAGE, thus suggesting that S. mansoni expresses a protein similar to the

Glutathione peroxidases are considered essential for the prevention of lipid peroxidation in biomembranes (1). Whereas the “classical” tetrameric Glutathione peroxidases (GPX) only reduce hydroperoxy fatty acids previously cleaved from phospholipids by phospholipases, a monomeric variant called phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase (PHGPX ...

Molecular characterization of phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidases from Hydra vulgaris
Gene, 2006Apparent full-length cDNA sequences coding respectively for mitochondrial (HvGPx41) and nuclear (HvGPx42) phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase were isolated from Hydra vulgaris. The cDNA sequences share total identity in their 3'-end and differ in their 5'-end.

1-linoleoyl lysophosphatidylcholine hydroperoxide is a substrate of GSH peroxidase (GPx) both purified from bovine erythrocytes and nonpurified from rat liver. The initial reaction rate for bovine erythrocyte GPx with 1-linoleoyl lysophosphatidylcholine hydroperoxide is about 76 and 95% of the reaction rate for hydrogen peroxide and linoleic acid ...
