Ice Formation in Model Biological Membranes in the Presence of Cryoprotectors [PDF]
Ice formation in model biological membranes is studied by SAXS and WAXS in the presence of cryoprotectors: dimethyl sulfoxide and glycerol. Three types of phospholipid membranes: DPPC, DMPC, DSPC are chosen for the investigation as well-studied model biological membranes. A special cryostat is used for sample cooling from 14.1C to -55.4C.

A minimal biochemical route towards de novo formation of synthetic phospholipid membranes. [PDF]
All living cells consist of membrane compartments, which are mainly composed of phospholipids. Phospholipid synthesis is catalyzed by membrane-bound enzymes, which themselves require pre-existing membranes for function.

A mesoscale model for quantitative phospholipid monolayer simulations at the air-water interface [PDF]
A mesoscale model with molecular resolutions is presented for the dipalmitoyl-phosphatidylcholine (DPPC) and 1-palmitoyl-2-oleyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (POPC) monolayer simulations at the air-water interface using many-body dissipative particle dynamics (MDPD).

FADS Gene Cluster Polymorphisms: Important Modulators of Fatty Acid Levels and Their Impact on Atopic Diseases [PDF]
Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFAs) play an important role in several physiological processes and their concentration in phospholipids has been associated with several complex diseases, such as atopic disease.

NMR studies of membrane structure and dynamics [PDF]
Over the past decade, there has been considerable interest in the motional state of the phospholipid bilayer membrane. The motivation underlying these efforts has been the contention that the phospholipid bilayer is the basic matrix in which membrane ...

Transporting of a Cell-Sized Phospholipid Vesicle Across Water/Oil Interface [PDF]
When a cell-sized water droplet, with a diameter of several tens of micro meter, is placed in oil containing phospholipids, a stable cell-sized vesicle is spontaneously formed as a water-in-oil phospholipid emulsion (W/O CE) with a phospholipid monolayer.

Vegetable oil phospholipids can be divided into hydratable phospholipids (HP) and non-hydratable phospholipids (NHP). The general process of alkali refining or hydration degumming can remove most of the phospholipids, and the rest is mainly non ...

From supported membranes to tethered vesicles: lipid bilayers destabilisation at the main transition [PDF]
We report results concerning the destabilisation of supported phospholipid bilayers in a well-defined geometry. When heating up supported phospholipid membranes deposited on highly hydrophilic glass slides from room temperature (i.e. with lipids in the gel phase), unbinding was observed around the main gel to fluid transition temperature of the lipids.
