The Nature of Tribromosalicylanilide Photoallergy
Three patients with photoallergy to 3,4',5 tribromosalicylanilide (TBS) following the use of a germicidal soap were studies to determine the mechanism of their photoallergy. None of these subjects had undergone previous patch or photopatch testing. Duplicate patches of purified TBS and its photoproducts 4', 5 dibromosalicylanilide (DBS).

Quinolone-Photoconjugated Major Histocompatibility Complex Class II-Binding Peptides with Lysine are Antigenic for T Cells Mediating Murine Quinolone Photoallergy [PDF]
Fluoroquinolone antibacterial agents cause photosensitivity dermatitis as an adverse effect and can function immunologically as photohapten. In a murine model of quinolone photoallergy, Langerhans cells are photomodified with a systemically given ...

Drug-induced photosensitivity [PDF]
Drug photosensitivity is a relatively frequent adverse event, although not always recognized due to its clinical polymorphism and difficulties in performing tests to prove drug causality.

Photoallergy and Photocross-Sensitivity to Phenergan1
Photosensitivity to phenothiazine derivatives, such as Phenergan® and chlorpromazine, has been recognized for several years (Tzank et al. (1), Sidi et al. (2), Schulz et al. (3), Kimming (4), John Epstein et al. (5)). The following is a report of a case of photoallergy to Phenergan®, with investigation of its contact and photocontact sensitivities.

A novel in vitro method for the detection and characterization of photosensitizers. [PDF]
Photoactivation and binding of photoactive chemicals to proteins is a known prerequisite for the formation of immunogenic photoantigens and the induction of photoallergy.

Structural Features of Photoallergy to Salicylanilides and Related Compounds*
Halogenated salicylanilides and bithionol have been reported to produce both allergic contact sensitization and photoallergic contact sensitization (1-4). The three principal clinically encountered “parent” compounds are 3,3', 4', 5 tetrachlorosalicylanilide (TCSA), 3,4',5 tribromo-salicylanilide (TBS) and bis (2 hydroxy-3,5 dichlorophenyl) sulfide ...

Sunscreening and Photosensitizing Therapy in the Elderly
People aged 65+ are generally polymedicated. In this age group, it is important to be aware of the potential for drug-induced photosensitivity. Sunscreen use is an effective way to prevent sun damage to the skin. Our study aimed to evaluate sunscreen use
