Microbial exopolysaccharide production by polyextremophiles in the adaptation to multiple extremes
Polyextremophiles are microorganisms that endure multiple extreme conditions by various adaptation strategies that also include the production of exopolysaccharides (EPSs). This review provides an integrated perspective on EPS biosynthesis, function, and regulation in these organisms, emphasizing their critical role in survival and highlighting their ...

Comparative Genomics Reveals High Genomic Diversity in the Genus Photobacterium
Vibrionaceae is a large marine bacterial family, which can constitute up to 50% of the prokaryotic population in marine waters. Photobacterium is the second largest genus in the family and we used comparative genomics on 35 strains representing 16 of the

Fish Pathogens and Associated Zoonotic Risks in Aquaculture: A Global One Health Perspective
ABSTRACT Aquaculture sector is a key contributor to global food and nutritional security, yet its rapid intensification has heightened concerns about the emergence and spread of zoonotic fish pathogens that threaten human, animal and environmental health.

This study serves as a proof‐of‐concept, demonstrating that deep shotgun sequencing of a single complex sample—stingless bee larval food—can simultaneously generate multiple genomic resources. From this dataset, we assembled three genomes (a near‐complete bacterium, a draft host mitochondrion, and a fragmented plant chloroplast) with varying ...

ABSTRACT Rocky reefs may shift between two distinct stable states: productive algal forests, characterised by high abundance and biodiversity of macrofauna, and impoverished barrens, dominated by overgrazing sea urchins. Barren states may persist despite the recovery of adult sea urchin predators, suggesting additional stabilising mechanisms.

Specific Spoilage Bacterium of Chilled Sturgeon Fillets and the Bacterial Reduction Effect of ClO2
This study aimed to identify the dominant spoilage bacteria in refrigerated sturgeon fillets and evaluate the effectiveness of chlorine dioxide (ClO₂) treatment in inhibiting bacterial growth and maintaining product quality. The 16S rDNA sequencing revealed seven dominant spoilage bacteria: Rahnella aquatilis, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Pseudomonas ...

Tandemly repeated tRNA pseudogenes in photobacterium. [PDF]
A region distal to three tRNA genes in Photobacterium phosphoreum, a Gram-negative eubacterium, unexpectedly contains a high number of repeated DNA segments that are closely related to the adjacent tRNAPro gene. The 5' to 3' order of this cluster is tRNAPro-tRNAHis-tRNAPro followed by eight tRNAPro-like structures interspersed by rho-independent ...

Purpose To determine the incidence of autograft bacterial colonization (BC) in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) and to identify any bacteria type at the genus level. Methods This prospective descriptive study included patients aged 18 years or older undergoing ACLR with hamstring autograft.

An Unexpected Facet of Extremophiles: Their Aesthetic Potential in Artistic Expression
In an era marked by environmental challenges and the proliferation of misinformation, the fusion of art and science is a strategy to promote public understanding and appreciation of complex scientific phenomena. We illustrate how the use of extremophiles offers novel avenues for artistic exploration and emphasise the benefits of such interdisciplinary ...
