Regional Transport in the Arctic: Sensitivity of NOx and Particulate Matter in Wintertime Urban Alaska to Background Air

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 7, 16 April 2026.
Abstract Fairbanks, Alaska is an example of a subarctic city that experiences severe wintertime air quality episodes characterized by high concentrations of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and nitrogen oxides (NO and NO2 = NOx). Previous research into these air quality episodes has focused on the impact of surface‐based inversions that trap local ...

Unveiling Value in Plastic Waste: Synthesis of 1,3‐Dioxolan‐4‐ones from Polylactic Acid and Polyoxymethylene to Enhance Plastic Biodegradation

open access: yesAdvanced Synthesis &Catalysis, Volume 368, Issue 7, 1 April 2026.
An acid‐catalyzed process provides a robust method to upcycle even impure and colored PLA and POM plastic waste into high‐value DOXs. Incorporating these DOXs enables the synthesis of PLLA materials that exhibit enhanced biodegradability, surpassing the performance of cellulose.

σ‐Resonance Stabilization of Aminomethylene by N‐Halogenation

open access: yesJournal of Computational Chemistry, Volume 47, Issue 8, 30 March 2026.
Utilizing CCSD(T) and NEVPT2 optimizations, we demonstrate that the simplest aminocarbene, aminomethylene, gets further stabilized upon halogen substitution of its nitrogen atom. The so achieved σ‐resonance stabilization, evident in a shortening of the C–N bond length and widening of the carbene angle, results in an increased carbene stabilization ...
