Modeling photonic crystal fibers

open access: yesAdvances in Applied Mathematics, 2006
AbstractWe study guidance of electromagnetic waves in photonic fibers. Both transverse magnetic and transverse electric polarizations are investigated. We characterize guided modes in the fiber as eigenfunctions of compact integral operators and prove their exponential decay in the cladding.

Two-mode photonic crystal fibers

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 2005
Index-guiding photonic crystal fibers with appropriate structural parameters support the fundamental and second order modes over a practically infinite wavelength range. The polarization principal axes and mode field patterns of the modes can be made stable by having different size air-holes along the orthogonal directions.

A Bio‐Inspired Perspective on Materials Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This perspective discusses natural materials as inspiration for sustainable engineering designs and the processing of materials. First, circularity, longevity, parsimony, and activity are presented as essential material paradigms. The perspective then uses many examples of natural and technical materials to introduce principles such as oligo ...

Strategies for Controlling Emission Anisotropy in Lead Halide Perovskite Emitters for LED Outcoupling Enhancement

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The rise of lead halide perovskite semiconductors has enabled high‐performance LEDs with internal quantum efficiencies approaching 100%. In order to further enhance the external quantum efficiencies limited by light outcoupling effects, in this account, the strategies for reducing energy dissipation through the substrate, waveguide, and evanescent ...

Advancements in Understanding the Physicochemical Properties of Reticular Materials: An In Situ and Operando Spectroscopic Perspective

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores how in situ and operando spectroscopic techniques reveal the real‐time behavior of reticular materials, including MOFs and COFs. These methods track material formation and functionalization, structural changes, defect formation, dynamic responses to external triggers, and catalytic processes.

Design of temperature sensor using twisted photonic crystal fiber

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2018
We proposed a novel temperature sensor based on dual core photonic crystal fiber (DCPCF) and applying different twisting on its cladding surface. The temperature dependent chloroform is applied as analyte.

Design and Simulation of Temperature Sensor based on Long Period Grating in Liquid Filled Photonic Crystal Fiber

open access: yesAdvanced Electromagnetics, 2018
In this paper, a high sensitivity temperature sensor based on photonic crystal fiber long period grating (PCF-LPG) filled with ethanol is proposed and simulated by full vector finite element method. The relationship between the resonant wavelength shift,
