Modeling photonic crystal fibers

open access: yesAdvances in Applied Mathematics, 2006
AbstractWe study guidance of electromagnetic waves in photonic fibers. Both transverse magnetic and transverse electric polarizations are investigated. We characterize guided modes in the fiber as eigenfunctions of compact integral operators and prove their exponential decay in the cladding.

Leakage properties of photonic crystal fibers

open access: yesOptics Express, 2002
An analysis of the con.nement losses in photonic crystal fibers due to the finite numbers of air holes is performed by means of the finite element method. The high flexibility of the numerical method allows us to consider fibers with regular lattices, like the triangular and the honeycomb ones, and circular holes, but also fibers with more complicated ...

Polarization-Tailored Raman Frequency Conversion in Chiral Gas-Filled Hollow Core Photonic Crystal Fibers

open access: yes, 2019
Broadband-tunable sources of circularly-polarized light are crucial in fields such as laser science, biomedicine and spectroscopy. Conventional sources rely on nonlinear wavelength conversion and polarization control using standard optical components ...

Characterization of 1D photonic crystal nanobeam cavities using curved microfiber [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We investigate high-Q, small mode volume photonic crystal nanobeam cavities using a curved, tapered optical microfiber loop. The strength of the coupling between the cavity and the microfiber loop is shown to depend on the contact position on the ...

Photonic Crystal Fiber in Photonic Crystal Fiber for Residual Dispersion Compensation Over ${\rm E} + {\rm S} + {\rm C} + {\rm L} + {\rm U}$ Wavelength Bands

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2013
A photonic crystal fiber in photonic crystal fiber (PCF-in-PCF) architecture is numerically investigated for residual dispersion compensation in optical transmission link. The optimized structure shows a flattened and high average dispersion of -457.4 ps/

Avoided crossings in photonic crystal fibers

open access: yesOptics Express, 2011
The impact of avoided crossings (also known as anti-crossings) in single and double-clad large mode area Photonic Crystal Fibers (PCFs) suitable for high-power laser systems is evaluated numerically. It is pointed out that an inappropriate choice of pump core diameter, bending radius and/or index depression may lead to avoided crossings that manifest ...
