Merging of defect modes in a superlattice of one-dimensional metamaterials photonic crystals

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2019
The optical properties are investigated in a new type of one-dimensional photonic crystal, which consists of two-layer unit cells. The first layer consists of a material with a negative refractive index (NIM) and the other is made of AlxGa1−xAs with a ...

Brillouin Zone Folding‐Driven Topological Band Flips Based on BICs via Twisted Photonic Crystals

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 15, Issue 11, 13 June 2026.
Brillouin zone folding (BZF)‐driven topological band flips are demonstrated via twisted photonic crystals (PhCs) incorporating bound states in the continuum (BICs). Twist perturbation generates three new bands, each linked to either a BIC or a guided‐mode resonance (GMR).

Multi‐Mode Deep Strong Coupling in a Multi Quantum Well Fabry–Perot Cavity

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 14, Issue 21, 5 June 2026.
Multi‐mode deep‐strong coupling is demonstrated in a 166‐well heterostructure that acts as a Fabry–Perot cavity. Even cavity modes couple strongly to the cyclotron resonance, producing large vacuum Rabi splittings and a rich polaritonic spectrum captured by a full Hopfield model.

Design of photonic crystal slab waveguides based on chalcogenide glass

open access: yes, 2013
The photonic band gap and its properties were investigated for 2D photonic crystal slab with a triangular lattice of air hole. The design parameters of photonic crystal slab waveguide based on chalcogenide glass GaLaS were obtained operating at a ...

Electrically injected photonic-crystal nanocavities

open access: yes, 2012
Nano-emitters are the new generation of laser devices. A photonic-crystal cavity, which highly confines light in small volumes, in combination with quantum-dots can enhance the efficiency and lower the threshold of this device.

Efficient Color Filters Based on Fano-Like Guided-Mode Resonances in Photonic Crystal Slabs

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2018
We numerically report designs of color filters comprising of 2-D photonic crystal (2D-PhC) slabs of square lattice of air holes. The filter principle is based on excited Fano-like guided-mode resonances (GMRs) in the visible regime with high-quality ...

A General Framework for Knowledge Integration in Machine Learning for Electromagnetic Scattering Using Quasinormal Modes

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, Volume 20, Issue 11, 5 June 2026.
Neural networks can accelerate modeling and inverse design of electromagnetic devices by several orders of magnitude, but usually require large amounts of data to train. This work demonstrates that integrating knowledge about quasinormal modes into the network architecture reduces the required amount of training data significantly, while simultaneously

Photonic-crystal slab mode excitation using charged particles

open access: yes, 2004
Electromagnetic modes of photonic-crystal slabs can be excited by charged particles which remain outside the slab. The theory assumes a classical trajectory for the particle and computes the dielectric response of the slab photonic structure to the ...
