Photonic crystal slabs

Physica B: Condensed Matter, 2003
The dispersion relation, density of states, and wave functions of the electromagnetic guided modes of a free standing photonic crystal slab are computed. The solution of Maxwell's equations are obtained from a self-consistent matrix eigenvalue problem solved by a fast computer routine.

Theory for Twisted Bilayer Photonic Crystal Slabs

Physical Review Letters, 2021
We analyze scattering properties of twisted bilayer photonic crystal slabs through a high-dimensional plane wave expansion method, which does not involve super-cell approximation, and explain the spectrum with an intuitive correspondence relation.

Half-disordered photonic crystal slabs

Applied Optics, 2016
Optical transmission spectra of finite-thickness slabs of two-dimensional triangular-lattice photonic crystals of air holes in a dielectric matrix with various concentrations of randomly located vacancies (absent air holes) are studied. We focus on structures in which only one half of the structure-the incidence or transmission side-is disordered.

Polymer photonic crystal slab waveguides

SPIE Proceedings, 2001
Finite two-dimensional (2d) polymer photonic crystal (PC) slab waveguides were fabricated from a benzocyclobutene polymer on a low refractive index substrate from Teflon. Square and triangular air hole lattices were realized by electron beam lithography and reactive ion etching.

Design of annular photonic crystal slabs

Optics Letters, 2008
We present the design of realistic annular photonic-crystal (APC) structures of finite thickness aiming to obtain a complete photonic bandgap (PBG). The APC is composed of dielectric rods and circular air holes in a triangular lattice such that each rod is centered within each hole.

Green’s function for photonic crystal slabs

Physical Review E, 2005
Green's tensors for photonic crystal (PC) slabs are numerically solved by the coupled-dipole approximation (CDA) technique. The obtained components of Green's tensors satisfy discontinuous or continuous conditions at interfaces of scatterers. This shows that the CDA technique is very applicable to studying the properties of PC slabs.

Slab-Thickness Dependence of Photonic Bandgap in Photonic-Crystal Slabs

IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics, 2012
The slab-thickness dependence of the photonic bandgap in air-bridge photonic-crystal slabs was theoretically investigated by the 3-D plane-wave expansion method. The photonic bandgap was found to achieve a maximum for a certain slab thickness depending on air-hole volume filling factor.

Slab polymer photonic crystals

SPIE Proceedings, 2004
Photonic crystals enable a reduction in the size of current photonic devices by virtue of forbidden propagation, except along engineered lines of defects. Furthermore, propagation above the band-gap has unique characteristics such as the superprism effect.
