Photorhabdus spp. are Gram negative enterobacteria which have a life cycle involving mutualism with a nematode partner and pathogenicity towards insects. Photorhabdus reside as intestinal symbionts of the infective juvenile (IJ) stage of entomopathogenic nematodes of the Heterorhabditis family.
