Changes in photosynthetic electron transfer and state transitions in an herbicide-resistant D1 mutant from soybean cell cultures [PDF]
The definitive version is available at: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science//journal/00052728Anomalies in photosynthetic activity of the soybean cell line STR7, carrying a single mutation (S268P) in the chloroplastic gene psbA that codes for the D1 ...

Compact tape‐driven sample delivery system for serial femtosecond crystallography
A tape‐driven liquid sample droplet delivery system for serial femtosecond crystallography is described. We have developed a compact tape drive (CoT) with on‐demand sample delivery for time‐resolved serial femtosecond crystallography (SFX) experiments, which can deliver sample droplets and/or initiate reactions with a drop‐on‐drop strategy.

New opportunities for grassland species in warming temperate winters
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Temperate winters are getting warmer, the length of the growing season is increasing and mid‐winter fluctuations of warm and freezing temperatures are more frequent. Although typically winter dormant, some herbaceous perennials can maintain or grow green leaves during ...

Photosynthetic insights into winter-green leaves in Quercus pubescens Willd. seedlings [PDF]
Quercus pubescens Willd. is a deciduous species that can retain leaves in the winter either as dead, standing leaves (marcescence), or as living, winter-green leaves. The retention of green leaves through winter is rare in continental areas. Winter-green

Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Plant phenology is crucial for understanding plant growth and climate feedback. It affects canopy structure, surface albedo, and carbon and water fluxes. While the influence of environmental factors on phenology is well‐documented, the role of plant intrinsic factors ...

Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Climate change has increased the frequency and severity of drought and large wildfire events across western North America. Despite the increasing concurrence of drought and wildfire events and the importance of forests as a global carbon sink, the impacts of fire on ...

Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Diversification in the genus Quercus, which includes tropical‐temperate transitions, is hypothesized to have been enabled by rapid colonization of new niches. To evaluate the role of ecophysiological adaptation to climate, we draw on close relatives in Lithocarpus and ...

Enhancing the vase life of cut roses through spectral optimisation during greenhouse cultivation
Here, we examined three red‐to‐blue (R:B) light emitting diode (LED) ratios (90:10, 80:20 and 70:30) in two cut rose cultivars. All treatments enhanced photosynthesis, with 90:10 showing the strongest effects—raising chlorophyll, carotenoids, anthocyanins and carbohydrate levels, and extending vase life by up to 30%.
