Interaction of Phthorimaea operculella granulovirus with a Nosema sp. microsporidium in larvae of Phthorimaea operculella

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2019
An antagonistic effect of a microsporidium (Nosema sp.) infection on the virulence of Phthorimaea operculella granulovirus (PhopGV) was recorded in potato tuber moth (Phthorimaea operculella) larvae with mixed infections. When the P. operculella colony was infected at a high rate (42.8-100%) with the microsporidium, it was less susceptible to the ...

Susceptibility of Phthorimaea operculella (Zeller) to Insecticides

Journal of Entomological Science, 1996
Seven technical grade insecticides were evaluated against a susceptible population and against two field populations of the potato tuberworm Phthorimaea operculella (Zeller) by topical application to third-instar larvae. Using a standard susceptible laboratory colony, we calculated median lethal doses (LD50) of 0.39, 0.059, 0.12, 0.00022, 0.18, 0.010 ...

Activity of sperm and fertility in the potato moth, Phthorimaea operculella

Journal of Insect Physiology, 1983
Abstract In this investigation, two kinds of sperm (apyrene and eupyrene) were found in the potato moth. At each mating, a single spermatophore containing both types of sperm was passed to the female. Sperm storage was observed in males in the duplex and in the females in the spermatheca. The fertility of eggs was greater than 90 per cent.

Tethered flight of the potato moth, Phthorimaea operculella

Physiological Entomology, 1985
ABSTRACT. The effects of sex, age and mated state on average flight speed, duration and distance were determined for potato moths, Phthorimaea operculella (Zeller) (Lepidoptera, Gelechiidae), tethered to flight mills. Moths were classified as non‐fliers (NFs), good‐fliers (

Population Structure ofPhthorimaea operculella(Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) in the United States

Environmental Entomology, 2010
The potato tuberworm, Phthorimaea operculella Zeller, is one of the most damaging pests of potatoes worldwide. Although tuberworm was recorded in California as early as 1856, it was first reported in damaging numbers in Oregon and Washington in the early 2000s.
