Domoic Acid, Okadaic Acid and Spirolides: Inter-Species Variability in Contamination and Cooking Effects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
International audienceThe inter-species variability of contamination by domoic acid (DA), okadaic acid and analogues (OAs) and spirolides (SPX) in mussels, oysters, cockles, carpet shell clams and razor clams was assessed. DA concentrations were measured

Field monitoring of copepodamides using a new application for solid phase adsorption toxin tracking

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, Volume 22, Issue 12, Page 877-888, December 2024.
Abstract Chemical signaling is ubiquitous in the marine environment. Plankton rely on chemical signals to find mates, hunt prey, and respond to threats, and these small‐scale interactions can propagate into community‐wide cascades and large‐scale ecological changes. The chemical signaling exchange in the open ocean is poorly understood, and fundamental

Rapid and simultaneous detection of ricin, staphylococcal enterotoxin B and saxitoxin by chemiluminescence-based microarray immunoassay [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Simultaneous detection of small and large molecules on microarray immunoassays is a challenge that limits some applications in multiplex analysis. This is the case for biosecurity, where fast, cheap and reliable simultaneous detection of proteotoxins and

Comparative Analysis of the Cytotoxic Effects of Okadaic Acid-Group Toxins on Human Intestinal Cell Lines

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2014
The phycotoxin, okadaic acid (OA) and dinophysistoxin 1 and 2 (DTX-1 and -2) are protein phosphatase PP2A and PP1 inhibitors involved in diarrhetic shellfish poisoning (DSP).

Recent and emerging food packaging alternatives: Chemical safety risks, current regulations, and analytical challenges

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 23, Issue 6, November 2024.
Abstract Food contact materials should not release their constituent substances into food at levels harmful to human health nor change the food composition, taste, or odor unacceptably. The historical evolution of food packaging shows that the use of plastics has increased dramatically, because of its convenience, lightweight, and cost effectiveness ...

Nodularin‐R Synergistically Enhances Abiraterone Against Castrate‐ Resistant Prostate Cancer via PPP1CA Inhibition

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 28, Issue 22, November 2024.
ABSTRACT Clinically, most prostate cancer (PCa) patients inevitably progress to castration‐resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) with poor prognosis after androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), including abiraterone, the drug of choice for ADT. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the resistance mechanism of abiraterone in depth.

Investigations into the Toxicology of Spirolides, a Group of Marine Phycotoxins

open access: yesToxins, 2011
Spirolides are marine phycotoxins produced by the dinoflagellates Alexandrium ostenfeldii and A. peruvianum. Here we report that 13-desmethyl spirolide C shows little cytotoxicity when incubated with various cultured mammalian cell lines.

Seasonal Early Warning of Impacts of Harmful Algal Blooms on Farmed Shellfish in Coastal Waters of Scotland

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 60, Issue 10, October 2024.
Abstract Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) can produce phycotoxins that accumulate in shellfish and subsequently poison aquatic predators and human consumers, potentially causing significant economic impacts to the shellfish aquaculture industry. HAB events are challenging to foresee as they are driven by complex inter‐annual and seasonal changes in physical,

Selection, identification and binding mechanism analysis of nucleic acid aptamer for Azaspiracid-1

open access: yesSensing and Bio-Sensing Research
Azaspiracid-1 (AZA-1), identified as a polyether marine phycotoxin, often causes severe gastrointestinal symptoms and threatens human health, and its outbreak also dramatically disrupted the economy of areas where shellfish are harvested and processed ...
