Physaloptera nordestina Matias & Morais & Ávila 2020, n. sp.
2020Physaloptera nordestina n. sp. (Figs. 1 and 2) Description. Robust and filiform body, cuticle with transverse striations and dilated anteriorly forming a cephalic collarette (Fig. 2A). Sexual size dimorphism evident, with males smaller than females (1:0.61) and males with welldeveloped caudal alae.

Larval Physaloptera sp. in the Richardson's Grouse
The Journal of Wildlife Management, 1960Thirty-seven immature nematodes of the genus Physaloptera were found embedded in the breast and thigh musculature of an adult male Richardson's grouse (Dendragapus obscurus richardsonii, Douglas), collected in the Highwood district of southwestern Alberta on September 9, 1958. Each white larval nematode (Fig. 1) measured approximately 4 mm.

Monthly Prevalences of Physaloptera retusa in Naturally Infected Yarrow's Spiny Lizard
Journal of Wildlife Diseases, 1991The gastrointestinal tracts of 167 of 489 (34%) Yarrow's spiny lizards (Sceloporus jarrovii jarrovii) collected in Pima County, Arizona (USA) from October 1967 through January 1970 were infected with Physaloptera retusa. Of the infected lizards, 88 (18%) had only larvae, 45 (9%) had larvae and adults and 32 (7%) had only adult nematodes.
