CHD pile performance: part I – physical modelling

open access: yes, 2016
The continuous helical displacement (CHD) pile is an auger displacement pile developed in the UK. It has performance characteristics of both displacement and non-displacement piles due to the way in which it is installed.

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Evaluating CPU, GPU, and FPGA performance in the context of modal reverberation: a comparative analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Signal Processing
The vibration of acoustic systems can be represented through modal decomposition, reducing the problem to a set of harmonic oscillators. This study investigates the real-time performance of CPUs, GPUs, and FPGAs in implementing such models, focusing on ...

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Scattering spectra models for physics

open access: yesPNAS Nexus
Abstract Physicists routinely need probabilistic models for a number of tasks such as parameter inference or the generation of new realizations of a field. Establishing such models for highly non-Gaussian fields is a challenge, especially when the number of samples is limited.

Enigmatic structures within salt walls of the Santos Basin—Part 2: Mechanical explanation from physical modelling

open access: yes, 2015
Jackson et al. ( this volume ) used 3D seismic reflection data to describe intrasalt deformation in salt walls in the Santos Basin. They focused on the origin of enigmatic allochthonous salt sheets of older evaporites (A1 unit) emplaced above overlying ...
