Using the physical properties of artefacts to manage through‐life knowledge flows in the built environment: an initial exploration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Effective through‐life management of built facilities requires effective through‐life knowledge management to support it. The KIM (Immortal Information and Through‐Life Knowledge Management) project attempted to develop such an approach, based on a ...

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Phase composition and physical properties of Co-Cr base coating [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Coating structure was mainly composed of α-fcp- and β-fcc-cobalt. Selected temperature interval for coating formation, according to XRD analysis, allowed us to form inter-metalloid compounds of CoxCry-type cobalt with chromium. Subsequent melting of a

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.
